Maybe it’s the fact that I listened to the acoustic version of this song first. Perhaps, it’s the way that I am currently jamming to the mastered version. Whatever the case, the song in question is sure to make my day as well as anybody else’s. “End Of The Line” by Archie Ray is a riveting, delightful melody. It encompasses the singer’s thoughts as he goes after his dreams, in hopes that the person he’s pining for will become or continue to be supportive of him in his endeavors. “So I will go do as I’m told, live my days until I’m old.” The singer croons. You hear this song that is very upbeat and joyful, and you just want to sing and dance along. It’s a song that makes you appreciate the hustle and bustle of any artist, starving or thriving. The structure of this song is really compelling, simple although a bit complex. The way that the guitar carries the entire song (played brilliantly by Ray) but making sure not to let the instrument drown out his voice completely is a nice touch. The beat of the song is reminiscent of an early Charlie Puth song, or any pop song that has a music video accompaniment, breathing road trip humble beginnings nostalgia. Or a romantic “I can’t wait to finally see my beloved” vibe at the end. The piano gives hope into the lyrics as well as each key inspires you to keep going strong. “I’m not done yet.” Ray sings this to signify his determination and that is evident with his smooth vocals. Overall, this song is enjoyable and is able to have the replay value of any decade. It’s not too showy, not all in your face with over the top vocals. It has a message and does great to bring that out as lovely as the singer can. The singer/songwriter, Archie Ray is from Cornwall and is holding down the pop genre, with his sound being influenced by hip hop, rock, . Introspection, accompanied by amazingly somber strings and heart-tugging lyrics, Kahone Concept’s “It’s Safe to Say I Have Regrets” is contemplation at its finest. We all have regrets in one way or another– maybe you’ve passed up an opportunity you should have taken, or lost contact with a person you cared about. Either way, it’s natural to have regrets about our youth once we’ve grown and gained some hindsight as to how we could’ve or should’ve acted. Kahone Concept marries these missteps with beautifully blended strings and percussion, which all come together to create a cathartic track that everyone can relate to. There’s just something about “It’s Safe to Say I Have Regrets” that makes me keep coming back to its beautiful, twinkling strings. Its instrumentals are an elegant and somber thing; it oozes melancholia and a wistful tone. Against Kahone Concept’s ardently emotional vocals, the instrumentals swell at the 1:50 mark. It is, by far, one of my favorite things I’ve ever heard from music; there aren’t many words to describe how aching the final verse is with this beat drop. Since the song begins so slow and mediated, it just makes that last verse so much stronger as you’re surrounded by Kahone Concept repeating “it’s safe to say I have regrets.” It eventually winds down around 2:22, but you’ll still feel like you’re caught in the wake of a large wave, the silent ripples gripping you in the tide. “It’s Safe to Say I Have Regrets” touches on the one thing we don’t want to think about: regretting. Yet, the songwriting makes its acknowledgement feel cathartic; Kahone Concept sings “I wish that I could start again” as a sort of renewal, or rebirth. As the final verse then comes along, with its beat drop and impassioned percussion, you can feel the pulling of the veil to reveal that we all have regrets, but it’s important to remember that without those mistakes we wouldn’t be who we are today. Kahone Concept, AKA Ben Kahone, is a Pittsburgh-based artist and producer. In his childhood, he taught himself how to play a myriad of instruments, but struggled to find people to start a band with. From then on out, he began to produce music independently. Kahone Concept’s debut track released in 2018, entitled “Windup”. Additionally, his debut EP dropped the same year: “And Then, My Five”. “It’s Safe to Say I Have Regrets” is Kahone Concept’s latest release, which he calls a reminder that he’s the “lovechild of Coldplay and depression.” This track is the tenth song out of twelve for his song-a-month-for-a-year project. I always love a good revenge ballad, and I especially love it when a song utilizes emotion to create a sense of chaos and pain. “Psychos In Love” is the newest single by singer and songwriter, Cheska Moore. This song is insanely good, and I think manages to display Moore’s talent extremely well. Inspired by Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever,” this song is about heartbreak in its purest form. Moore combined her strikingly soft vocals with the pure chaotic energy of the electric guitar. It’s almost haunting in a way, how Moore’s gentle vibrato contrasted with the dramatic instrumentals. It drew me deeper and deeper. I loved every second of it. So I mentioned before how this song was in some way inspired by “Happier Than Ever,” and you can tell even just based on her vocals. But Billie Eilish isn’t the only artist I’m reminded of, here. I can hear a little bit of Olivia Rodrigo, however I can sense a bit of Melanie Martinez in Moore’s voice. That’s three absolute powerhouses that I think have immensely unique voices that got them very far, very fast. Cheska Moore is the perfect combination of all three of them. But she also somehow has one of the most unique voices I’ve ever heard. And if that works in her favor (which I have no doubt in my mind about), I think we can expect to see Moore going very, very far. Cheska Moore is bound to be a fan favorite soon. She released her debut single, “Boy Who Tried,” in 2019, and has been evolving ever since. In 2020, her online presence skyrocketed as her covers of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Believe” blew up on TikTok. As of today, she has around 2.7 million TikTok views, 10 million Instagram views, and over 90,000 followers. She’s even gaining popularity on Spotify, with her music getting over 80,000 monthly streams. This year, Moore plans to release her debut EP, and I for one am very excited. It's that time of year again; the award show that everyone desperately waits for at the beginning of each year. The Grammy's have made a name for themselves over the last 66 years. Every artist and musician dreams of being awarded a Grammy in their lifetime. Although the academy award show has made some questionable choices when it comes to selecting their winners, I'm trying to have some hope this year. It's unclear whether they have any logic to their system, but none-the-less it's still one of the most highly anticipated award shows each year. In this article, we will be discussing the nominee's for all the pop music related categories along with who I think should win, verses who I think WILL win based on past choices from the academy. Best Pop Dance Recording Nominees: Baby Don't Hurt Me - David Guetta, Anne Marie & Coi Leray Miracle - Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding Padam Padam - Kylie Minogue One In a Million - Bebe Rexha & David Guetta Rush - Troye Sivan Who we think will win: Baby Don't Hurt Me - David Guetta, Anne Marie & Coi Leray Out of all the nominations in this category, this song has the most streams. Although the Grammy's doesn't usually use statistics when they choose who wins, I think because this is such a recognizable tune, the board will default to choosing this track. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic song! I just think there are more impressive choices. Who we want to win: Rush - Troye Sivan That impressive choice in my opinion would be "Rush" by Troye Sivan. Troye really took the dance music world by storm in 2023 when he released his album "Something To Give Each Other". The production is unique, diverse and catchy - and frankly, I just think Troye Sivan deserves a Grammy. If not in this category, it'll be album of the year. She's such a beloved person with an unbeatably large fanbase. "Midnights" was one of her biggest released to date, gaining her even more fans than she already had. If "Midnights: doesn't win this category, I'd love to see "Subtract" by Ed Sheeran be the winner as well. It's a brilliant album that deserves more recognition than it has. Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Nominees: Thousand Miles - Miley Cyrus & Brandi Carlile Candy Necklace - Lana Del Rey & Jon Batiste Never Felt So Alone - Labrinth & Billie Eilish Karma - Taylor Swift & Ice Spice Ghost In The Machine - SZA & Phoebe Bridgers Who we think will win: Ghost In The Machine - SZA & Phoebe Bridgers The reason I think they're going to choose "Ghost In The Machine" for this category, is because I don't see SZA NOT winning at least one Grammy this year. Her album "SOS" broke through to mainstream and heavily increased her fanbase. Who we want to win: Karma - Taylor Swift & Ice Spice I'd love to see "Karma" win, because it's one of the best songs on the "Midnights" album - even the version without Ice Spice. However, just like SZA, I would be shocked if Ice Spice left without winning at least one Grammy this year. She was a major breakout artist, but honestly I'd rather her win this one than the "Best New Artist" because there are just so many great nominees on that list. It's just a matter of which category it'll win. I think it'll be "Best Solo Performance" because she's up against some pretty great songs in the other categories she's nominated for. Ice Spice Jelly Roll Coco Jones Noah Kahan Victoria Monet The War And Treaty Who we think will win: Ice Spice Like I said before, I don't see Ice Spice not winning a Grammy this year. Even though I personally think others on this list deserve it just a little more based on their accomplishments, I have a feeling that the Grammy's are going to award her with "Best New Artist". Who we want to win: Gracie Abrams In my opinion, Gracie Abrams came out with one of the best albums of 2023, "Good Riddance". She was an opener on the Era's tour and has gained a decently sized, loyal fanbase. I think she deserves to be a Grammy winner, and if not her I also think Noah Kahan is a great contender considering how his career blew up as well. Again, it's all about which category the academy chooses for it. Song of the year usually focuses on songwriting. To me personally, I feel this song deserves "Record of the Year" which focuses on production, performance, and writing rather than just the songwriting. However, because the Grammys doesn't always use logic when making their choices, I think they're going to award it Song of the Year instead. Who we want to win: Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift Like I said, Song of the Year is awarding the songwriting of a song. Taylor Swift is one of the greatest songwriters of our time, and "Anti-Hero" is one of her most relatable, lyrically complex pop songs ever released. Logically it would make sense for her to win this category, but I'm not sure the academy thinks the way common listeners do. I also believe that "Dance The Night" by Dua Lipa has a chance at winning as well, if not Taylor or Billie. Album of the Year Nominees: World Music Radio - Jon Batiste the record - boygenius Endless Summer Vacation - Miley Cyrus Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd - Lana Del Rey The Age of Pleasure - Janelle Monae GUTS - Olivia Rodrigo Midnights - Taylor Swift SOS - SZA Who we think will win: Midnights - Taylor Swift Who we want to win: Midnights - Taylor Swift Like mentioned earlier, if Midnights doesn't win Best Pop Vocal Album, then I can't imagine it not winning Album of the Year. It's such a complex and universally loved album that it has to win at least one of it's categories. Ideally, it would be Album of the Year which is one of the major awards. This would break records for Taylor, being that she'd be the only artist to win Album of The Year 4 times, and as a female. Not to mention if she wins at least one Grammy this year, it'll be her 13th win. Record of the Year Nominees: Worship - Jon Batiste Not Strong Enough - boygenius Flowers - Miley Cyrus What Was I Made For? - Billie Eilish On My Mama - Victoria Monae Vampire - Olivia Rodrigo Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift Kill Bill - SZA Who we think will win: Flowers - Miley Cyrus "Flowers" is nominated for a lot of categories this year. It's bound to win at least one of them. Record of the Year is considered the biggest award of the night, focusing on all aspects of the song including production, performance, and writing. Considering that "Flowers" was one of the biggest songs of 2023, gaining over a billion streams, I think it makes sense for it to win this category, if not any of the others. Who we want to win: What Was I Made For? - Billie Eilish However, in my opinion, "What Was I Made For?" was one of the best songs to come out this year. It's also nominated in a number of categories, but I think it's such an incredibly done song that it deserves to win Record of the Year above all the other categories. We can only hope that the Academy feels the same way. This year's annual Grammy Awards will air this Sunday, on February 4th, 8pm EST live in Los Angeles. Getting to the point in your life where you are old enough to move out of your childhood home can be terrifying. Paying your own rent, buying your own groceries, and working every second is a hard combination to put on top of leaving the place you have always known. People tend to think of themselves in this situation, and then overlook how scary it is for the people you leave behind too. Bea Stewart’s latest single “Talking To Your Sunflowers” is an ode to her parents, specifically her dad, who has been struggling with the ‘empty nester’ lifestyle almost as much as she has. The song is a mix of life lessons he has taught her and how badly she needs to remind herself of these things now that he is not there to tell her himself, and Stewart picturing what he is up to and how he is doing on his own. The song is ballad-esque, with Stewart’s emotional voice paired perfectly with simple background melodies. Something she has had to come to terms with is the drastic change in the amount of time she has gotten to spend with her dad, and how she wishes she could hear more of his words. In the first verse, she sings, “But lately everything’s been sad / and your advice it doesn’t come as fast”. Obviously she knew how important their time together was, but because of the distance she is really feeling his lack of support. The saddest line, in my opinion, is the beginning of the chorus when she sings the connection to the title of the song: “and I heard you’ve been talking to your sunflowers cause you miss me / and though you wanna call you only do it once in every fifty times”. Her dad is so used to having a loud ouse with her and her brothers home, that he has turned to gardening and talking to his plants to make up for the sudden silence. The second line also hit me hard, because no matter how often my family calls me and it feels like nagging, I know deep down they want to call infinitely more than they actually are able to. Bea Stewart is a singer-songwriter born and raise outside of Belfast, Ireland. Her music is raw and real, and has elements of Irish folk music that connects her to her childhood. She has over 5,000 monthly Spotify listeners and has recently announced an EP to be released on April 12th titled “Sorry I’m So Sensitive” and a tour around the UK with four separate dates to celebrate and promote this drop. She has been featured on BBC Radio 1, and other UK stations, and has sold out shows in London and her home of Belfast. In today’s world, many of us strive to build up the mental resilience and fortitude necessary to deal with the increasingly unpredictable and quickly changing world around us. However, this is not at all an easy task. It is easy to get stuck in vicious loops of negativity by letting slights, both real and imagined, take hold in our minds. But this loop doesn’t have to be unending, at least not to singer-songwriter, Kailey Conner. In her latest single, “Absentminded,” the singer utilizes a bright musical landscape to explore how to maintain that positive mindset in the face of constant negativity. Conner sings in the chorus: “Absentminded\ You’re absent from my mind\ I don’t mind it\ The thoughts are left behind\ Fill the space with all the joy I find.” She lyrically flips the typical negative connotation of the word, absentminded, into a metaphor of emotional perseverance by using it to describe the act of filtering negative thoughts out of her mind and filling her mind up with the positive things she finds joy in.
