  • Interview: "I've Been Thinking" - Darcey Flo

Q: ‘I’ve Been Thinking’ is such a beautiful song! What inspired you to write it? Darcey: I wrote this song in the midst of the pandemic. The year that forced us to see the fact that life can change so quickly. But it also showed me what’s important. Nature, time outside, allowing ourselves to play and daydream like we did as kids, slowing down, exploring. The song is about wanting to find yourself by getting lost, in nature, in the blue and green. Q: When did you know you wanted to start making your own music? Darcey: I have always written songs and sang, but it was only in the past few years that I thought, 'fuck it, let's get these songs made and see what happens'. I really enjoy the process of making them and so I just want to keep doing it for as long as I can. Q: Who are some of your biggest music influences? Darcey: I grew up listening to Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, all really talented songwriters and storytellers. Q: If you weren’t doing music, what would you be up to right now? Darcey: I am an artist and painter, so in my free time I like to do that. I'd probably be doing that full time. Q: If you could pick a theme song for your life, which would you pick and why? Darcey: Maybe Ziggy Marley – Believe in Yourself. It was the theme song to a cartoon I watched as a kid called Hey Arthur. I don't know it's just happy haha. Q: What can we expect next from you? We’re excited to hear more! Darcey: I am releasing a new song in March that i'm super excited about, and then I am working on my EP that should be released later this year! • "Room For Another" - Mokita

Let's face it. Life can be lonely sometimes. When we're by ourselves it gives us too much time to think. A lot of the time in those moments, we're thinking about what made us so lonely. Where did I go wrong? What could I have done differently? Is it too late for me now? Sometimes life can get so busy we don't even realize what we want until we walk in the door of our empty house at night, and we're all alone in our beds with only our thoughts. "Room For Another" by Mokita describes that feeling of wondering what life would be like if we took the time and effort to bring someone new in our lives. Someone we can talk to and wind down with at the end of the day. Mokita's voice is angelic. His light and smooth vocal tone captivates you from the very start. • "broke & lonely" - Alexa Cappelli

Okay, let's cut right to the chase. 'broke & lonely' by Alexa Cappelli is the most relatable song ever - especially for us Gen Z kids. We're expected to know who we want to be and what we want to do the moment we turn 18. We're thrown into this crazy world alone and afraid and left to fend for ourselves. "Hey, does anyone know what they're doing?". The answer is no! We've got to fake it until we make it because that's the only way we will survive. 'broke & lonely' sings the thoughts we all think of daily. "Why is everything so damn expensive? Getting into debt just for attention. Living it up or settling down? Wish I knew what I want now". The struggle is real. Aside from the genius lyrics, this song is so catchy it makes it hard not to frantically dance around your room and sing at the top of your lungs. The music gives me a sense of nostalgia in a way that it had to have been done on purpose. I mean, that's the point of the song, right? In our minds we still feel like a kid, and we have no idea where to go from here. The nostalgic feel of the song puts us back where we want to be - innocent, irresponsible and free. Instead here we are, teaching ourselves what we think is right and how to be an adult, working our butts off everyday to get nowhere. Alexa Cappelli is an incredible and talented singer/songwriter from Southern California. Her lyricism captures the attention of many young minds out there. Alexa is a very relatable and kind 22 year old who wants to use her musical abilities to bring people together. If you love Alexa just as much as we do, she just released her new EP 'Confused @ 22' which is incredible. Written By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW ALEXA:

  • "House On Fire" - Alexis Lynn

‘House On Fire’ by Alexis Lynn is beautifully vulnerable. The song centers around Lynn watching a loved one self-destruct through addiction. It’s heartbreaking when we want to intervene in a situation like this but can’t because the other person doesn’t want our help. From our perspective “on the outside looking in,” we may notice things about them that they can’t see and wish that they could. We feel powerless. Citing the complex feelings that arise when this happens, Lynn urges us to keep supporting these individuals however we can. Who knows? Maybe one day they’ll accept our offer of assistance. But until then, be patient and give them space. A standout feature in the lyrics is the depiction of a house burning down, and the person going through the addiction is trapped inside. “Chasing temporary fixes, you won’t call it quits...it looks to me that you don’t wanna be saved.” Lynn’s like the smoke detector in the house who’s begging the person to wake up and listen. In a very salient demeanor, she expresses the aching sensation she feels while being stuck on the sidelines. At the same time, her commitment to this individual is as powerful as her evocative lead vocals. With the addition of angelic harmonies and banging-on-the-door drum kicks, you feel the sheer intensity of Lynn’s internal struggle. It’s a fervent, soul-stirring work that gives a simple image an incredible new meaning! Vancouver-based artist Alexis Lynn is the heiress of urban pop. Her magnetic songwriting delves into a plethora of topics such as love, lust, vulnerability, and self-awareness. Her creations include anywhere from dance music-inspired anthems about insecurity to flirtatious, club-friendly bops about emotional availability. ‘House On Fire’ is just one of those amazing songs. Her next project is a multi-faceted deep dive into mental health and its effects on our lives and relationships. Stay tuned! Written By Kevin Rodriguez FOLLOW ALEXIS:

  • Interview: "Gone Before You Let Go" - Ahli

Q: Congratulations on the release of ‘Gone Before You Let Go’! Can you share what inspired you to write it? Ahli: Thank you! So I wrote this album over the course of the last five years of my life, and it contains what I think defines me as an artist and as a person. Over the years I just had one idea of "I just need to get better and then..." whether it was as small as appreciating the honeymoon phase of a relationship (My Kind of View), or as big as watching my hometown fade out of my life and missing friends grow up in pursuit of music (Famous). I just thought that mentally if I could just be "better" as a person, I would suddenly get back to what made me be an artist in the first place. The album starts with "Lying" which is about the things I told myself to go to sleep, it was also the first really produced song that I worked fully on. The last song on the album is "Somebody's Someone" which was written 2 years ago about facing myself with if I wanted to be someone worth coming back to or if I wanted to just find someone who thought I was. Q: What made you choose ‘Gone Before You Let Go’ as the title track of your new album? Ahli: I think it was the hardest to write! I think it takes a lot to not leave at the first sign of something going wrong in love, and if I am being honest with myself; it still feels like the most honest and encompassing track (alongside "Somebody's Someone" and "One Step"). Q: Who are your biggest music inspirations? Ahli: Local Natives and Maggie Rogers handsdown. Both are incredibly badass. Q: When did you know you wanted to be an artist? Ahli: I realized I wanted to be a songwriter in third grade when the boy I liked told me I could only be part of his band if I wrote music (got kicked out the next day for being a girl (I also came out as non-binary ten years later, so lol)). I fell in-love with writing then and pursued it ever since, thanks John! Q: What is your go-to karaoke song? Ahli: Funnily enough I work at a karaoke bar in East Nashville called Sid Gold's so I definitely know my go-to is Vienna by Billy Joel. Q: What can we expect next from you? Ahli: I have a bunch of projects coming out this year but expect to see my music video for "Gone Before You Let Go" Friday, February 25th. I also have an album release show at Sid Gold's in East Nashville, March 10 if anyone is in the area! Written By Sarah Curry FOLLOW AHLI:

  • "Beautiful Music" - Nieri

Simply put, "Beautiful Music" is the ultimate electronic pop track. This track has a entrancing club vibe to it - it reminds one of a club Britney or Madonna track. The story behind the track revolves around Nieri reaching his limits after a long and stressful week as he describes it in the opening lines of the track. Wanting to let go of his stress, he craves going to the club, listen to "Beautiful Music" and just "dance, dance..." and (you guessed it) "dance"! It is such a vibe and let's be honest, we can all relate to this because we have all reached this point in our life one time or another. Music is a therapeutic and healthy release. The Milan raised artist wrote the song to remind himself that music will always be there for him. Although Nieri is a pop artist, "Beautiful Music" is a electronic pop track which he decorated with his own touch. The repetitive beat, deep bass, progression and (of course) an epic drop. His smooth vocals adds a "sexy and sticky" vibe, making me recall Madonna's tracks "Sorry" & "Hung Up". What I did notice, however, was that this song does have a reflective tone to it as the lyrics "but what if life is a simulation?" suggests. And it made me think - what if there is more truth behind this that we'd like to admit to ourselves? I like that the track is written on a deeper level, rounding the track off nicely towards the end. Apart from the music, I'm really impressed by the effort LA based Nieri put into his cover art, the moving artwork on his YouTube channel (otherwise known as a visualizer (which is very hot right now) and his website (this is so important actually). It is clear that he takes himself seriously, and rightfully so. I encourage our readers to engage with Nieri, because he is definitely an artist you need to keep on your radar. (Btw a little birdy told me that there is a EP scheduled to release later this year). Hard work, quality and effort will always be rewarded - congratulations on this banger of a track Nieri! Keep up the great work! Written By Nicholas Joubert FOLLOW NIERI:

  • "only you" - tadashi

This chill love song is the epitome of what a love song dedication should be. Who of us wouldn't want to experience a love like this? The lead male vocals has a low, relaxed vibe to it throughout the track. tadashi is so focused on his love interest in the song, that he cannot see himself being with someone else as the lyrics "I don't know who could replace you", proves. As the song progresses, he declares he won't lie to "you" or that he cannot disguise the way he feels about her. "only you" has such a deep emotional connection to it and it really is a vibe. This is when you see quality music being written - writing from personal experiences. The song starts off with an acoustic guitar intro, with a deep base dropping in the first verse. He explains that "only you" is dedicated to his girlfriend, which gives it a personal vibe to it. I couldn't help but wonder, how did she react when the track released on Valentines Day 2022? Or maybe she was involved in the track from the start? I noticed a female vocal foley and wonder if this is his girlfriend's vocals? If it is, it is brilliant because it would give the song a personal twist. "only you" is tadashi's 5th single he has released. He is off to a great start seeing that the newcomer is releasing new music often. If this is the close and personal music he releases, the we at Pop Passion Blog are excited to see what other music he has in store, as he progresses in his journey. Well done tadashi! • Interview: "What Do We Do Without Love" by Antonio Jean

Q: Congratulations on your new single “What Do We Do Without Love”! Can you tell us what this song is about? Antonio: I wrote this song back in 2017, a time in my life where so much was going wrong with homelessness, money problems, sick parent, and a whole lot of other things that made 2017-2019 HELL(All Caps). This song represents one of the the things that kept me going, "Love". The love from my partner, my mom(god rest her soul), and the love of God overall. Yes love can be up, and down but if it's strong, genuine, and keeps your heart a glow then it can make us happy as it did me. That's why "what do we do without love" is so important because it's the symbol of my life, and the joy we I want to spread to all people across the whole world. Q: When did you know you wanted to be an artist? Antonio: I've always known that I wanted to be an entertainer because it's always been in me from a child up. Singing in church, school, college, and different ensembles, and musical theater halls all over. I've always been an artist. When I realized at a young age that when I went to sleep, and woke up with music on my mind I knew it was all I wanted to do with my life. Q: Who would you pick for your dream collaboration? Antonio: There's so many amazing artist out there now, and in the past that paved the way for me to do what I love freely, and openly. But if I had to pick only one it would have to be Adele because I believe that our heartfelt ways of delivering our craft would render one of the most powerful ballads to ever hit the world stage. Q: What do you like to do when you're not doing music? Antonio: I like to write poetry. But in real life I like to to binge watch my favorite shows, workout, laugh, and enjoy life by the water, the park or even just away to read a good book or relax at the spa. Q: If you could pick any place in the world to perform, where would you pick and why? Antonio: The Royal Albert Hall in London; because it's is a a thing of beauty in architecture, location, and history dating back to 1871 opened by her highness Queen Victoria. It's just a place that many artists of the past, and present have performed as well as given their hearts to the world. It's a place I'd like to also leave my legacy. Q: What’s the next step in your musical journey? We can’t wait to hear more! Antonio: My next step is to write a hit album that will be filled with songs that will motivate, uplift, and encourage as well as make people happy with who they are. Also, I want to be able to make this new single reach the Grammys, and possibly the world starting with a 1 night only intimate event presenting Antonio Jean(The Takeover hint hint.......) I hope that I myself can be a positive example to all people, and I hope that you all have enjoyed this snippet into the life of me. Thank you so much for this opportunity to share a bit of who I am. Ladies! Are you tired of men stepping on your business and dictating your place in society? Define your own standards with ‘Good Girl’ by Alexa Villa. • "Ooh La La" - GT_Ofice x Britt Lari

Imagine this...You're in a night club and the DJ plays the ultimate summer EDM track. You can't get enough of the vibe. Dying of heat and craving a thirst quenching drink (anything cool that will contribute to your buzz). Sweaty strangers grinding together adds to the vibe of this summer evening party. You just can't get yourself to leave the dance floor because the FOMO is real. This is the imagine that races through my mind when I listen to this epic EDM collaboration between GT_Ofice, Britt Lari & Carneyval. This track sports the ultimate club vibe, but is also very suitable for your gym playlist. The fast beat, deep base and catchy chorus will make you go in overdrive, whether it be on the dance floor or in the weight section. "Ooh La La" has a cheerful, deep bass beat (as every great EDM track does). The decent progression adds to the suspense, it builds and then the drop cues your best dance moves (btw remind me why there is not a TikTok dance challenge to this song yet?). Considering the lyrics sung by vocalist Britt Lari, it reminds one of that friend in college who always partied at frat houses or sororities, never slept, nor attended any classes. The friend who always drags you along and who you will make memories with. Some people call it irresponsible, I call it legendary, just like this song. My advice? Blast this song through a proper set of headphones to appreciate this work of art. In conclusion, playing this track is a must at every party. It comes as no surprise that Miami-based producer GT_Office has performed at major NYC, Las Vegas and (of course) Miami nightclubs. Britt Lari has also been featured on various Spotify editorial playlists, hit music radio stations and is signed to Warner, Sony, NCS and Spinnin'. Although "Ooh La La" released in 2021, I cannot see why this entrancing track shouldn't be played this upcoming summer. This superstar collaboration will supercharge your mood, giving you the ultimate chills. Written By Nicholas Joubert FOLLOW GT_Ofice: FOLLOW Britt Lari:
