  • Review: "Long Jump" - Ananya

Looking back on our past can feel rewarding and terrifying. All the things we achieved and the people we were, yet the hurt we gained and carry still sits in the cracks. Growing up is scary because life is ever-changing and remembering how easy it used to be as a kid can make us wish for a do-over. “Long Jump,” by Ananya is a new single that channels nostalgia and the fear of growing up. The distance between who we were and who we are and finding the gratitude with it. The track has an intimate energy with the sound textures, indie instrumentation and deep lyricism. She explores her experiences with internal conflict and how in the end it will get easier. “Long Jump” is so raw in the way it showcases something we’ve probably all felt. I know I personally wish I could go back to the days of freedom where my only care was which game my friends and I were playing at recess. “Life was easier then, the girls were friends and the games were pretend.” Ananya spoke about the inspiration for the song and said, “It came from my deep love and appreciation for my childhood and the painful reality of being so far from it now. Growing up is daunting, leaving behind the best days of your life and the place you once called home.” It truly is so hard growing up in a time where social media affects our daily thoughts. We see a glimpse into everyone's life and with that comes comparison and fear for what the future holds and wondering if it will ever be enough or better yet, easier. We’ll never be prepared for what’s to come but we shouldn’t fear that no matter how overwhelming a thought it is. There’s peace in knowing everything that’s meant to happen will happen. Ananya is a Zimbabwe-born singer-songwriter now based in London. She fell in love with music at a young age and learned to play piano, guitar and drums, talk about talent! With her lyricism she fonds inspiration in artists such as Taylor Swift and Joni Mitchell. She writes to connect with herself and her listeners by sharing her personal experiences and the emotions that follow. Ananya released her debut single “Aftertaste” back in 2019 and released three chart-topping singles in Zimbabwe. Along with music, she is also a huge advocate for mental health. She cofounded The Nano Wellness project to address the mental health crisis in Zimbabwe. There’s nothing better than an artist who uses her platform to bring awareness to issues and aim to help in anyway she can. • Review: "Memories" - Fox Stevenson

Losing connection with someone we once believed would be part of our lives for a plethora of time is a feeling like no other. It leaves us with obstinate feelings of confusion and puts us in a state of self-blame. We flagellate ourselves for the mistakes and actions we made that could have driven this person away from us. Igniting a special kind of connection with someone is an overwhelming feeling, and we instantly feel the potent sparks of an unavoidable fate. However, that strong sense of connection meets a woeful demise that seems just as inevitable. The bond we once had with these people just seems to dwindle and wither like a flower that lacks the necessities it needs to flourish and thrive. All that we are left with are the remnants of what we once had, plagued by memories, that strong feeling of yearning in us that never dissipates, no matter how often we tell ourselves to get over it and move on. Despite the ache we feel, this person, who is a stain in our lives, remains brusque and cavalier to the turmoil we face inwardly. Thus, we are left with the haunting memories of this person until their image and presence wane from our memories. “Memories” by Fox Stevenson is a song that holds the same idea, narrating it into a blend of music and sounds that can truly resonate with listeners who crave authenticity. With lachrymose lyrics like “Wish that I can unlearn you” and “I miss you, you don’t care”, these are words that further pelt us with the reality of our emotions, where we wish to erase this person from our memory, but we have to ruminate with the longing we feel for them and the fact that they don’t care. The song announces its presence overtly upon the first few seconds of its introduction. It starts off with a blend of sounds that mix to create something upbeat, adding an electronic sense to the pop that thrives in this song. As Stevenson’s voice sets in, we can’t help but offer our rapt attention, his voice acting as the centerpiece, tying all the sounds together in a way that makes the song memorable. The lyrics serve a deep purpose, adding vehemence to such a resonating song, emphatic lyrics that are certain to leave their indelible mark on its listeners, encouraging pensive thoughts from us. I appreciate how raw these lyrics are and how accurate they are when it comes to losing connection with someone who was once special to us. It’s a painful heartache that lingers even after we thought we were over it. "Memories" can serve as a beacon of light to those who are incapacitated by their former connections, solely left with the recollections that never seem to fade. The dynamic drum and upbeat sound almost take away from the fact that this song carries so much emotional struggle. Yet, when we take the opportunity to sit in the lyrics, we realize just how heavy they truly are. Fox Stevonson is a British singer and songwriter rooted in pop and electrohouse. He makes music for the 812k listeners he has achieved on Spotify, creating a community essentially, and a fan base for those who love his music! Stevenson crafts his heartfelt music and lyrics in hopes to connect with those who care to listen, those who may need a comforting embrace, seeking reassurance. His music not only comes from his heart, but it also comes from the undeniable passion he shares for making music and casting melodies that are both adventurous and inspiring, stretching beyond the lines to achieve the clarity behind his music, capturing the hearts of his supporters and listeners. Fox is currently on tour in the U.S., his first show being May 1, opening in Brooklyn, NY, to perform his music on stage. "Memories" is a single release for his upcoming album, set to be released on June 27. Many listeners can expect to hear more emotional drive in this second album of his, exploring themes of anxiety, obsession, self-image, and alienation. As the month of June begins to approach, I can't help but anticipate the release of Fox's second album! His passion for music reaches listeners across the globe, making his talents undeniable! • Review: "Lovesick" - Teddi Gold

Love can truly be a sickness that is hard to get rid of when the feeling it gives us is both sweet and sour. We are left dreaming of what can be as our crush barely even knows our name. Still, we can't help but avoid healing from the case of the lovesickness that keeps us high on the sweet feeling taking us down the sunny, yet cruel highway leading to nowhere. Teddi Gold creates the anthem to our hopeless love that has us dreaming of that perfect, summer day with that special someone. When the highway comes to an end along with the dreams that turned into a cruel nightmare leaving us feeling like a fool, we'll know it's time to turn our lovesickness around. A dreamy, nostalgic melody invites us into the summer ambience of the song. Teddi Gold's unique and alluring vocal tone matches the peaceful, warm feeling of the melody as we drive down the sunny highway of 'Lovesick.' That special someone is on her mind, and she can't stop thinking about that person from their wavy hair to their bright, white kicks. In the end, she realizes that the sweet dreams have turned into a cruel nightmare leaving her feeling like a fool. She knows she's lovesick, but she can't help but hope to heal from it with that special someone. • Review: "Dead to Me" - Avery Lynch

Avery Lynch has struck yet again with another sad and simplistic song about love and heartbreak. The title track of her most recent EP, “Dead to Me”, was released April 25th, and is nothing short of a lyrical masterpiece intended to hit listeners hard. “‘Dead to Me' is about a very close relationship I had with someone that I don’t know anymore,” she says. “It’s about missing that person but coming to terms with how the version of them that I knew no longer exists.” Lynch’s delicate voice is paired only over a simple piano line, letting listeners feel as if she is sat down alone in front of them pouring her heart out. This kind of vulnerability is what Lynch is known for, and lets her music be all the more enticing. Lynch sings this song directly to her old flame, which allows listeners to sing along and attach these words to whoever has hurt them as well. She starts by acknowledging all of the things that have been left behind, like old friends and memories, even down to mannerisms that she picked up from them. My personal favorite lyric is found in the pre-chorus, and is posed as a question Lynch is asking herself. She sings, “How do you end up all in and it still falls short? / No ill intentions but that doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt”. In such simple words, she explains the feeling that sometimes no matter how much you love someone, it still will not work. Knowing you’re not right for each other certainly doesn't make it any easier to deal with the fallout. Avery Lynch has been involved in the music scene since she was seven years old, when she first started playing the piano. Now at age 25, Lynch’s love for music has taken her from her birthplace in Pennsylvania to her now home in Los Angeles, to a degree from Berklee College of Music, over 300k TikTok followers, and almost 400k monthly Spotify listeners. Fans of Lynch keep coming back for her confessional tone and heartfelt lyrics. With Lynch’s work, there is no fluff or anything left to soften the blow. Her music is simplistic and raw, and that is what sets her apart. Make sure to follow the social medias below to stay tuned for more music from Avery Lynch. • Review: "Flown Away" - Laura Pieri

Laura Pieri’s latest track “Flown Away” beams with fearlessness, as she soars in a new soundscape. Pieri breaks away from someone who was never satisfied. She lifted them up at the expense of living in a loop of sacrificing and redesigning herself. The suffocating isolation parallels the feeling of a bird in a cage. She builds her confidence, shedding layers of the false image she created, reminding us to express our true selves. She sings, “I put everything on the line/I’m not even sorry/ That I’ve flown away.” This anthem will pick you right back up when you’re feeling down. Pieri’s lyrics stand out, emphasizing self-love and escaping the pain of someone who couldn’t love her as she was. Laura Pieri’s expressive voice is made for dance music. Reminiscent of artists like MØ and Tove Lo , her voice carries vibrant color and energy. Similar to her story, she breaks away from her traditional pop sound, creating a track ready for summer. The percussion loops with crisp snares, while the sweet melody raises the carefree spirit of house music. The synthesizers echo early Major Lazer and DJ Snake hits, adding a spark of nostalgia. It's an instant serotonin boost. The song feels like reconnecting with a past version of yourself, open-hearted and ready to dance, with a new light. Laura Pieri was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. She moved to New York at 16 and attended NYU’s Gallatin College of Individualized Study. She blends her Brazilian roots with pop influences like Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson . Her debut EP, Frankie , holds four tracks, each telling a different character's story. It was written with Skyler Cocco , Libby Larkin , and DEZI. Originally, Pieri wrote “Flown Away” for the album, but saved it, seeing the track as a misfit. Now, it carries the story to a new chapter, intertwined with self-discovery. Pieri balances her time between New York and Los Angeles, creating dance-worthy tracks. • Review: "Voodoo Doll" - Corrine Atkins

“Voodoo Doll” is the very first single released by the talented Corrine Atkins. This song has the most beautiful and heartfelt meaning behind it. Being in and out of the hospital is never easy for a patient and their family members. The uncertainty of health conditions can take a tremendous toll on anyone. But with the help of those around you and their unwavering support and strength there is always the power to come out healthy and stronger. Corrine Atkins dedicates this song to her younger sister who has been battling a harsh medical condition for the past few years. This song reflects all those moments in the hospital while also showing her sisters incredible strength through it all.   “Voodoo Doll” is such an intense and raw track with lyrics that inspire anyone who listens. When I first listened to this song it gave off that nostalgic early 2000’s vibe. With it’s catchy but steady drum beats throughout paired with the soaring but restless guitar being played. Accompanied by her smooth vocals that were super powerful and reminded me of artists like Pink and Carrie Underwood. While the song is about toughness and the unbreakable spirit of a hard condition, she turns this song into a powerhouse fueled by these very things. I absolutely loved everything this track has to offer, especially with honest lyrics like “I’m a walking voodoo doll” and “stitched with pain all over again.”   Corrine Atkins is a brand-new singer/songwriter from the Isle of Wight, England. While she has been making her mark in the music field with live singing gigs. “Voodoo Doll” marks her very first release into the music industry with her magnificent voice and vulnerable lyrics. Through everything she creates she makes sure that every listener can resonate with it on a deeper level. “Voodoo Doll” is such a terrific song that encompasses her pop rock genre perfectly. Her very first release is available now on all major streaming platforms and I highly recommend giving it a listen! • Review: "Bitter" - FELIN

FELIN brings inensity and energy with the release of her song "Bitter." She brings the energy of an early 2000's rock anthem feeling like a long lost sibling of an Avril Lavigne song. FELIN highlights how women in the rock industry really change the game by bringing beautiful vocals and emotional lyrics to an engine powered by fun drum tracks that just make you want to jump. Listening to this song, you can't help but head bang while grooving along and some of the best lyrics I've ever heard in a song. FELIN brings up a controversial topic on how great it feels when someone who has wronged us gets exactly what they deserve. Sometimes it is gratifying to see that happen to them and a lot of us may not want to admit that. She exhibits exactly what rock music in that sense all while being catchy enough that it'll be stuck in your head for weeks. I will always be a sucker for a catchy rock song. Nothing I love more is being able to rock out and jam all while having something fun to sing as rock music sometimes sacrfices that. FELIN ensures that the vocals are just as beautiful as the production of the song. The beginning is the only part of the song that gives us a second to breathe until the rest of the song truly takes your breath away with angst. Shortly after, the song throws itself against each other switching up between half-time and full speed which correlates with the lyrics. It's such a smart move for FELIN to do this because it's like a que for the listener to listen into the lyrics when the music cuts in half. The song as an entirety is one for the books that everyone will find something to connect to while having a great time listening. FELIN is a Swedish artist that fuses punk rock, electric and pop music. Her lyrics usually touch on topics like women's rights, social injustice and what it really means to be your true self. FELIN is known for drawing inspiation from Blondie and Debbie Harry, following pursuit of becoming her own iconic sound just like them. FELIN has always had a thing for music as she started bands in her teens and in school which shows in her work today since you can feel the confidence in the music that keeps coming out. FELIN is also a touring musician and has performed with big names like Agnes and Thundermother and you can find tickets to see her live this year. Written By Breanna M. • Review: "flaunt you" - Robin Swann

Salt Lake City-based artist Robin Swann is back with her third single of this year, "flaunt you"--and it's her most personal yet. "flaunt you" is a glimmery, pop-EDM fusion with an important message. The song describes a struggle so many LGBTQ+ individuals face: wishing you could openly express being in love with your partner but having to hide it. Robin is an intricate songwriter, finding inspiration amongst the likes of Taylor Swift. She conveys multifaceted emotions of love and isolation with a beautiful earnestness. "flaunt you" is a relatable, heartbreaking, and gorgeous ballad from Robin. "flaunt you" utilizes EDM and lo-fi aesthetics. Robin and producer Xander Lee work together to make a track that has a classic bedroom pop vibe--down to the fact that it was even recorded in Robin's bedroom. Robin's soft vocals pair well with the airy instrumental that gradually grows as the song progresses. The track is undeniably catchy. Robin says she's "always been keen to encapsulate a specific feeling or emotion with [her] lyrics," and that is prominent in "flaunt you." The lyrics hold such a weight to them. From Robin's candid lyricism to her expressive delivery, "flaunt you" packs a strong emotional punch. Robin Swann is an up-and-coming artist from Salt Lake City. She graduated from Brown University, where she met her now frequent collaborator Xavier Lee, and soon began officially releasing music. In 2021, Robin debuted with "Take My Hand," and has since released five other tracks including "illuminated" and "heartbreaker." She has amassed over 15,000 streams on Spotify alone. Robin's music places a strong emphasis on songwriting. Her lyrics are vulnerable and always come from a strong point of view. Robin's career is only just beginning, and you can listen to her discography, including "flaunt you," on all streaming platforms now. • Concert Review: Kendrick Lamar & SZA - Grand National Tour in Houston

Photo: Grand National Tour Website April 23th was a day a to remember. I went to see Kendrick Lamar and SZA co-headline the Grand National Tour at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. I started listening to SZA’s music two years ago and saw her perform live that same year. When this tour was announced, I immediately bought tickets to see her again. I liked a few of Kendrick’s older tracks, but I never called myself a fan. I didn’t officially become a fan until I watched his Super Bowl performance. That’s when I knew the decision to buy tickets for the show was the right one. This was my first hip hop concert and I was intrigued, to say the least. Kendrick Lamar & SZA Performing Doves In The Wind At 8:30 pm on the dot, the show started with the crowd fired up to hear Kendrick’s first round of songs like “wacced out murals”, “squabble up”, and part one of “tv off”. Then, we get to see SZA perform a few slower songs including “30 for 30,” “Broken Clocks”, and “The Weeknd”. Before you can even process your emotions, Kendrick swoops in again with another round of crowd approved songs that included “euphoria”, “Humble.”, “m.A.A.d. city”, and “Alright”. After a small break from yelling, it was time for SZA’s extended return to the stage. She performed fan favorites including “Scorsese Baby Daddy”, “F2F”, “Kitchen”, and “Low”. Just when you think SZA left the stage, she stays on to sing “Doves In the Wind” and “All The Stars” with Kendrick. During “All The Stars”, lights were circulating the stage like batman’s signal and both of them were on platforms lifted high in the air. Fast forward to Kendrick blasting through “peekaboo”, “DNA.”, and “Poetic Justice”. Later, SZA rattled off some of my personal faves such as “Kill Bill”, “Snooze”, “BMF”, and “Kiss Me More”. Next, Kendrick finishes off the second part of “tv off” before he unleashes the song we’ve all been waiting for, “Not Like Us”. It was absolutely chaotic with the collective screaming and dancing of 42,205 people. This moment will go down in world history. After the craziest moment of the night, the final act ensues. Kendrick and SZA perform "luther" and "gloria". For the last time that night, they told us how much they loved us. Then, the icons got in the Buick GNX and descended underneath the stage. The iconic show was over at exactly 11:00 pm. SZA Performing Kill Bill SZA’s forest, insect, and garden themed sets were truly phenomenal. Her backup dancers were dressed up in various insect costumes. Most notably during “Kill Bill”, two preying mantises accompanied her on stage. In addition to that, she sang on top of a giant ant during “Kitchen”. She even floated above the stage during “Crybaby” and “Saturn” while shedding her cocoon and morphing into a butterfly all without missing a note. The way she bounced from R&B to rock to hip hop to alternative pop and back around was very impressive. I also would like to praise her for the use of rock/punk elements in “Scorsese Baby Daddy”, “F2F”, and various other songs. I love rock music and it’s one genre I would like to see black musicians get back in the rock music scene. From the visuals to the singing to the dancing to her unique genre-bending musicality, there is nothing she can't do. Kendrick Lamar Performing Not Like Us Kendrick Lamar is a highly lauded and well respected rapper and I finally understand why. I am extremely impressed how he was able to bounce from song to song and remember the sheer plethora of lyrics. I also love how he uses his music to speak on issues affecting the black community and the political climate. On various songs, he was accompanied by backup dancers and strobe lights. The Buick GNX was on stage during “wacced out murals”, “Man At The Garden”, “gloria”, and numerous other songs. Most of his performances were in a black and white color palette with the exception of very colorful songs like “DNA.” and “Not Like Us”. His raw energy, rap flow, and political commentary are chef’s kiss. Kendrick Lamar & SZA Performing Gloria The Grand National Tour is a must-see, don’t-miss, or you’ll regret it once-in-a-lifetime event. Two and a half hours, five duets, nine acts, 52 songs, and a stadium full of awestruck, jaw-dropped, drooling fans who couldn’t get enough. The energy of the crowd was so infectious the entire show. Even you didn’t know any of the songs, you would have the best time. There were so many incredible moments during the show, but “Not Like Us” takes the cake. I would love to see Kendrick and SZA perform individually and together again. This is an unforgettable moment in pop culture/music history and you don’t want to miss it. • Review: "Overthinker" - Bella Rios

Hey overthinkers! Bella Rios has released her new single “Overthinker,” a feel-good anthem to encourage overthinkers to live in the present. Reading too far in the future? Wanting to leave the party early because you can’t get out of your head? This song is the perfect amp-up anthem for you, then. Rios gets it, saying that “everything you say, I’ll probably overthink it.” Coming from a place of personal experience, Rios channels the pain of “not knowing where [she’s] going” into this song. Hoping to relate to others who have the same problem, Rios aims to give inspiration to those who struggle with overthinking and let them “say what [they] really mean” and not be scared to let go. With a song coming from personal experiences, Rios touches on a couple of common experiences with overthinking. Whether it’d be wanting to leave a party early (with a cute ad-lib of “Mom, can you come pick me up?”) or having a heartbeat as heavy as a drum, the anxiety touched upon throughout the song is powerful and tells that Rios knows the experiences by heart. With an uplifting guitar riff and backing vocals that feel like a crowd uniting, Rios captures the feeling of finally letting go: the present fills up the void where “thoughts falling from the sky” used to be, and there’s a freedom never felt before. With the energy captured throughout the song, Rios’ energy and vocals throughout the song standout with every lyric sung and gets the message of the song across beautifully. Bella Rios hails from Chicago, where her powerhouse vocals and her piano lessons started to shape her into the star that she is today. Now residing in Nashville, Rios is inspired by the artists who she grew up listening to, like Lady Gaga, Adele, and Fleetwood Mac. Throughout the first quarter of 2025, Rios has also released “ Right Now ” alongside “Overthinker,” showing off her pop-rock influences and the new takes she brings to the genre. With her sophomore EP on the way, Rios could see herself among artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Renee Rapp when it comes to tongue-in-cheek lyrics and catchy choruses. • Review: "We Both Know" - Jesabel

Jesabel’s new single titled “We Both Know” is the perfect love song with dreamy lyrics and her tender vocals. The song is about fighting for the person you love even when times may get a little rough. Every relationship has their battles and more than often with the intense power of each other’s love the good always outweighs the bad. When there is love present in any relationship it’s hard to find ways to not be together. It can get extremely hard at some points and there will be times where it may seem easier to part ways. But there is always another outcome because as frustrating as this point in the relationship is not being with your person is a pain like no other.   “We Both Know” opens with a euphoric melody immediately following her lovely vocals. Her voice is so enchanting especially with the way she carries her vocals with lyrics like “We both know” and “Yes, you’re mine.” Everything about this song caught my attention immediately. I really enjoyed how it was a love song, but it did so in a bright, warmhearted way. I thought the instrumentals played a huge role as well with the guitar and drums being played so nostalgically. Both of these elements really set the passionate but hopeful mood throughout the whole track.   Jesabel is a singer/songwriter who was born in Georgia but now resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Her journey is unique but inspiring as she taught herself how to sing and play the guitar after losing herself with the scary pressure of new motherhood. She released her very first track in 2020 releasing music regularly after that until 2022 when she took a break. “We Both Know” is her latest single which brings us a beautiful message about love that she released while living in Paris, France. Jesabel is creating a wonderful musical career for herself while making sure to create each and every one of her songs with so much life. • Review: "Nora" - Rachel Cousins

Rachel Cousins has gifted us a beautfiul ballad expressing the gratitude and the appreciation that we feel for our close friends. When we have that special bond with someone all we want is for them to understand exactly how we view them. Rachel does an incredible job of showcasing that feeling and the love that comes along with it. We can feel the depth of the song in the chorus when it says, "Nora, I hate the way you talk about yourself / Nora you'd never speak that way to someone else / Nora, I wish that you could feel the way I do about you wish that was true." We've been given the perfect example of how to love someone through words. My favorite verse is drenched in sincerity and it says, "It's the way you laugh / And the way you want to believe everyone / It's the way you care and the way you see all the good in every love / And your eyes when you cry how they hold light." It's evident the artist is expressing their love and gratitude for a close friend and it moves us to think deeper than surface level about our friendships and who we hold dear. "Nora" by Rachel Cousins gives off an introspective and reflective tone. We are left to marinate in what she is saying in the lyrics. We're forced into this postiton of diving deeper, connecting and wrestling with our emotions. This helps us dechiper the mood of the song which seems to be a melancholic reflection laced with droplets of happiness. Rachel isn't sad, she just wants her friend to understand and see the best parts of herself. This brings a new level of depth and meaning to the song. When it comes to instrumentation we're given light percussion and somewhat dense bass which helps move the song along. The instrumentation also allows us to take the lyrics and bring them down a notch to set the pace for the rest of the song. When everything is slowed down, and brought together it makes the song even more impactful. Fresh off performing at Honey Jam in Toronto, her EP focuses on her performances and unique approach to song writing. Rachel Cousins has been collaborating with Paris based writer/producer Clement Simunet. Some of her music is better known for its pop/folk roots. This style can be seen in her songs "Hope To Bring" and "Steal Mine." Rachel's debut pop single "Let Go" put her on the map and helped turn her into a smashing sensation. With some of her songs finding their way into tv shows and one song even making an appearance in the made for tv movie "The Art Of Falling In Love." She's not done quite yet though, so stay tuned for more new music and give "Nora" a listen today! Written By Destiny Rundquist FOLLOW Rachel Cousins: Instagram | Spotify  | Facebook
