- Review: "Passenger Princess" - Francisco Martin
Have you ever had such strong feelings for someone that in your eyes, they were royalty? Their presence literally brightens up the room and they shine brighter than anyone. They not only are the most beautiful person you've ever seen, but their personality is sweet and they act in such grace, it's impossible not to fall for them. This person is an expensive jewel that needs protected, and you want to be the one to protect them. They deserve the world and the best kind of treatment there is - the royal treatment. "Passenger Princess" by Francisco Martin is a love song that is about catching feelings for someone that is a rare gem like this, and spoiling them to your hearts content. The title is a nod to the internet meme and Urban Dictionary term 'Passenger Princess' that defines as someone who uses someone else for rides. Have you ever driven around with the windows down in the Summertime, blasting music to the point you can feel the vibration of the bass and letting your hair fly in the wind as you scream along with the words? "Passenger Princess" is the perfect upbeat and feel-good song for this type of scenario. The soundscape is dreamy, yet energetic at the same time. It has a nostalgic groove, like a 70s funk flow with Francisco's own unique and trendy modern pop twist on it. One of my personal favorite parts about this song is the classic influence on the style of the horns. They're hazy and reverbed, and the perfect amount of soul to give the song as sense of completeness. Let's not forget the incredible bass line and beat that will have you dancing around in your car during one of your aesthetically pleasing trips. Francisco Martin is a singer, writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist from the Bay Area of San Francisco and is now based in Los Angeles. Growing up in a musically inclined family, Francisco grew up teaching himself how to play guitar, drums, piano and many other instruments eventually leading him to perform. He participated in season 18 of American Idol where he landed a spot in the Top 5. Since then he's released several hit singles, including 'Swollen' and 'Wild Girl' which both have accrued millions of streams, and 2 EP's, 'Beautiful Ramblings of a Restless Mind' and 'Maniac'. There's still a lot more to come from Francisco Martin so make sure to keep up with his journey! Written By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW FRANCISCO:
- Review: "I choose you" - Anni
Figuring out love and what you're looking for in a relationship is a journey. Though the process might be exhausting and sometimes painful, eventually you'll come to know exactly what you're looking for and what red flags to avoid. You seek to find someone who will value you and put you first, above anyone else. Anni focuses on this in her latest single, "I choose you." The new alt-pop track is inspired by Anni's experience with an ex. She wrote it after her ex told her that there are "too many options" on dating apps and such. After this she realized that really loving someone means choosing them before any of the other "options." No matter what, you choose them every day and make them your priority, your first pick. If someone truly loves you, they'll want to show you off and only you. Slow and soft, "I choose you" gives off a moody romance vibe. Anni's hushed, quiet vocals gently deliver lyrics about what she wants in a relationship—how she wants to find someone she can choose and who will choose her no matter what. Her vocals are supported by soft pop beats and dreamy synth sounds. Though it might have been painful discovering what she wants in a relationship, "I choose you" showcases a positive message. The melodies and harmonies behind the lyrics give an optimistic, hopeful feeling for finding a love that loves you back. Between the chill alt-pop beats and Anni's sweet voice, "I choose you" gives off plenty of fuzzy, romantic feelings. Anni, formerly known as Annika Grace, is a Los Angeles based alt-pop singer, songwriter, and poet. She is the creator of a house concert series in Venice Beach called "Saturdays at Seven." Anni leans in to the new era of music, exploring more vulnerable material. Her music reflects themes that are authentic, raw, and sometimes ugly, as music does not always have to be pretty. Anni's moody music is often included in playlists that feature other artists like Billie Eilish, Hozier, and Birdy. Some other great songs to check out from Anni are "Guest List," "Sedona," and "Dinner Party." Anni is off to a strong start with her music career and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. - Review: "Head and Heart" - KRYSTOF
KRYSTOF is the self-proclaimed “CEO of overthinking”. His latest single, “Head and Heart”, shows exactly what overthinking can do. He sings about how his former lover broke his heart, leaving him confused and blindsided. He clearly loved his partner but looking back on the relationship there were many red flags he did not see. In the chorus, he sings “You’d hurt me for your pleasure, then you send me breakup songs that mess with my head. There goes my head again”. His ex-partner intentionally messed with KRYSTOF’s emotions for their own amusement and sent him mixed signals. Now sitting in the aftermath of the relationship, he is left with a broken heart and a broken mind. “Head and Heart” shows the immense anxiety he felt in the relationship, wondering what went wrong, and questioning everything his ex-partner ever felt for him. KRYSTOF perfectly encapsulates the heartbreak he is feeling in his electro-pop single, “Head and Heart”. The song starts off with a slow tempo, that gradually speeds up as the song continues. The rising tempo may be representing the anxiety that he felt during the entire relationship, wondering if his partner ever loved him. At the end of the chorus, the beat finally drops. He is showing the emotional whiplash that his partner has put him through. He did not know what was coming next, and neither does the listener. KRYSTOF is a 20-year-old pop singer from Carinthia, Austria. He grew up in a family of musicians, prompting him at the young age of 5 to sing songs he made up himself to express his feelings. He taught himself on guitar and wrote his first official song when he was 14. He started gaining recognition by posting cover songs on Instagram, then promoting his original songs on Spotify and YouTube. KRYSTOF was signed to a Viennese record label, Global Rockstar, when A&R manager, Jazz Egger, discovered him on Instagram in 2020. Written By Karlee Smith FOLLOW KRYSTOF:
- Review: "Honest with Myself" - Mykyl
Mykyl just released his most vulnerable song to date. “Honest with Myself” is about his struggle with depression and self-doubt. He really captures what it feels like to live with depression. Media portrayal almost romanticizes depression as just being sad and crying when life get hard. Mykyl shows the brutal reality of depression. The song begins with him questioning if it is the morning or afternoon, that the light is blinding, and the sunshine feels foreign. Depression is staying in bed until 3pm because he does not feel well enough to get up. Depression is feeling broken because he used to feel alive, but now he feels numb. Depression is not sadness and tears; It is feeling empty and numb. Mykyl would rather feel anger or sadness, because at least he would be feeling something. He spends the song questioning if he is honest with himself because he has been denying his depression. This is a feeling that many listeners are able to relate to. The gut-wrenching ballad pulls on the heartstrings of the listener. Even if you do not struggle with depression, you cannot help but feel the grief Mykyl is feeling. The bridge is the climax of the song, showing the internal battle he is having with himself and those he loves. He sings the lyrics that he does not want pity or love and that he just wants to be alone. He sings these lyrics in such a way that it feels like he is trying to convince himself of this, not his loved one. At the end of the bridge, Mykyl then belts out “don’t you dare leave me alone”, despite spending the last thirty seconds saying he wants to be left alone. He needs to be honest with himself that he does need the support and love, and that he cannot handle this on his own. The entire song builds up to this moment. That being honest with himself is admitting he needs help. He understands now that he is hurting, he is lost, and things are not making sense now, but he needs to have faith that one day, he will no longer feel broken. Michael Van Wagoner, better known Mykyl, is an American pop singer from Salt Lake City, Utah. He has multiple singles available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music. His two latest singles, “Honest with Myself” and “Broken” are the first two songs released from his upcoming EP, “hopeisnowhere”. He writes music that resonates with his listeners. He is open and honest about depression and anxiety, and is an active advocate for mental health. The messages in his lyrics help fans feel less alone in their own struggles. His sound is influenced by a large range of music, including top 40s pop to pop punk. Written By Karlee Smith FOLLOW MYKYL:

- Review: "Easy" - MisterWives
Humans are resilient; it is in our nature. In “Easy” by MisterWives, lead singer Mandy Lee sings about how heartache get easier as time passes. Whether it’s a bad breakup, a career hiccup, a death of a loved one, or a depressive season of life, humans are able to get back up. It is only a matter of time. Even if it is still difficult, things will get better. In the chorus, Lee sings “Cut me deep, but I stopped the bleeding// It gets easier, but it’s not easy”. They say time heals all wounds, but that does not mean the pain has not left a lasting scar. It does get easier to manage, and it may not hurt as much as it used to. Healing is not linear. Sometimes you can regress, but sometimes you can look in the mirror and realize you are doing better than before. And that in itself is the greatest healer of all. MisterWives formed because Lee wanted an 80s cover band to play for her birthday. Now she is making 80s inspired pop music. “Easy” is an upbeat song with incredible vocals and heavy 80s influence. The music video, released alongside the song, has 80s influence with Lee’s dancing, fashion, and overall aesthetic. Lee looks almost free, like she has finally let go of the pain and is able to be herself again. Despite the dark lyrics, the music feels lighthearted and fun. When things get easier, you start getting pieces of yourself back. MisterWives lost themselves when their former label, Fueled by Ramen, dropped them mid-pandemic. “Easy” is their first single under their new independent label. It was released along with another single, “Where Do We Go From Here”. It got easier for them and the only place they can go now is up. MisterWives is an American indie pop band formed in late 2012. They played their first show on February 1, 2013 at the Canal Room in New York City, where they are based. The very next day, they were signed to Photo Finish Records. Then in 2019, they signed with Fueled by Ramen but was subsequently dropped in 2021. In 2022, the band launched their own independent label, Resilient Little Records, in partnership with Photo Finish Records. The band has 3 full length albums and 3 extended play albums. - Review: "Anything But You" - Rachel White
Rachel White will do anything to distract herself from the heartbreak she is feeling in her new single, “Anything But You”. Her relationship ended abruptly leaving her confused and hurt. She is now trying to fill every minute to distract herself from the pain of her partner leaving. In the chorus, she sings that she is going out of her mind and pushing her limits just so she does not feel the pain. She is doing everything she can do to block the heartache. “Anything But You” resonates with listeners who have gone through a break-up that leaves them questioning what went wrong. She thought the relationship was going so well, so why did her partner leave? Anyone that has gone through a breakup that ends so suddenly like this will understand the hurt that White is feeling and know that they are not alone in the pain. White wants to create break-up songs that listeners can relate to and “Anything But You” proves she is capable of doing just that. “Anything But You” was written only two months ago in March 2022, making this song an incredibly raw, vulnerable song. As soon as the song starts, the soft piano and White’s angelic singing begins. The heartbreak is heard in her voice during the verses, and nearly explodes in the chorus. She builds up the background of her former relationship and the hurt she is feeling now that it is over. In the bridge, the music intensifies as she explains what happens when she lets her guard down for a minute. She starts questioning if her ex is also feeling the same emotions. The bridge ends with a slowdown of production, limiting to song to just White and a few notes. She flipped the script in this moment, singing “I bet you’re filling your time”. She questions if her former lover is using the same coping mechanisms as her. She then bursts back into the chorus, bringing a cinematic ending to the song. “Anything But You” tells a full story of heartbreak and mourning, making it the perfect break-up ballad. Rachel White is a singer-songwriter from Scotland. Her debut single, “Royalty”, was released in 2020 after she spent time focusing on her music during the pandemic. Her lyrics tell a story of sorrow that is relatable to listeners everywhere. She takes inspiration from many artists such as Hailee Steinfeld, Holly Humberstone, and Shawn Mendes. She wants to create songs that resonates with her listeners and make them feel less alone. Her debut EP, “Hold On”, was released alongside with her single “Anything But You”. - Review: "Backyard Body" - FLØRE
In a world where true crime podcasts and documentaries are trending, “Backyard Body” by FLØRE is a song that will catch anyone’s attention. It is not for the faint of heart, and if you do not like morbidity then turn away, because FLØRE’s new single will haunt your dreams. “Backyard Body” starts with FLØRE telling her new lover to lay their heart down on her front porch because she is “that kind of girl who’s into gore”. The rest of the song proves just that with her morbid lyrics, such as, “your brain might look kinda cute on my walls” and “it’s cloudy with a good chance of murder”. In the chorus, she begs her partner to say that they will either love her or they will be “a backyard body”. She is telling her lover that death will truly be the only thing that, “do them part.” FLØRE’s new single is intense from the beginning to the end, giving vibes of early Avril Lavigne or Paramore. The alternative-pop song has an incredible beat matched by FLØRE’s sensational voice. FLØRE is brilliant with the lyricism and imagery of the song. In the chorus, she sings “Coffin flowers do not die”. This alludes to her song, “(cøffin fløwer)”, which is another song on her new EP, “Rise of the Romaniac”. “(cøffin fløwer)” is an intense ballad that tells the story of heartbreak and how FLØRE found herself again. FLØRE tying these two songs together shows the heartbreak that hides behind the darkness of “Backyard Body”. In the pre-chorus, she sings, “My boys are rotting in the yard// Got no time left to waste// The only thing I want was love// And it made me insane”. FLØRE alludes to several previous heartbreaks, and she is tired of it. She wants this new love to be the one, or else they will just be another body in her yard. Through this dark metaphor, FLØRE is giving her lover an ultimatum; they leave now or they stay forever. FLØRE is an alternative-pop singer who writes songs to “give this weird existence a meaning”. She is inspired by the darkness and uses her songs to express the loneliness she feels. Her latest EP, “Rise of the Romaniac” is the “afterlife” of her sophomore EP, “Romaniac”. It is more intense, deadly, and bold. She is going back to her roots of emo rock in her new EP, but her overall discography is diverse. She has three extended play albums and several standalone singles. FLØRE is a versatile artist with a little something for everyone. “Rise of the Romaniac” is out now on all streaming sites. - Review: "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" - Felicia Lu
In Felicia Lu’s new single, she takes the classic children’s book about a caterpillar that just cannot stop eating and twists it into a story about her ex-boyfriend. “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” shares its name with the innocent kids’ book, but the song is far from it. Just like the caterpillar does with the food he finds, the boy hops from one girl to another. One is just never enough for him, and he moves on to the next before the girl even knows what happened. This is what Felicia’s ex-boyfriend did to her. He left her wondering if she was not good enough, or if he just leaves “whenever it gets rough”. She is more angry than heartbroken, fueled by a vendetta against her ex. In the first verse, she tells her ex that she hopes he finds the love of his life and that she will be the girl of his dreams. In the second verse, Felicia drops the bomb that she hopes all this will lead to his heart being crushed in the end. She paints the picture of a man that breaks hearts without any regard towards the wreckage he leaves behind. The book, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, is very colorful and lighthearted. Felicia’s song of the same name is the polar opposite. The angry pop song has a very dark tone that resembles the haunting melodies of Taylor Swift’s bridge in “Innocent”. With heavier beats, it makes for the perfect dark-pop song. “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” sticks in your mind and evokes the same emotions the background music in horror movies cause. It’s haunting, beautiful, and has the right amount of tension where you feel like you’re experiencing the anger as Felicia herself. And it works flawlessly. From the first note, the listener’s attention is captured and they are glued to the song for the full 2 minutes and 35 seconds. “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” is the perfect song to add to your angry break-up playlist. Felicia Lu is an indie-pop singer-songwriter from Germany. She is currently living in Vienna, Austria. In 2017, she was a contestant for the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2022, she returned with her song “Anxiety” and placed fourth for Germany. “Anxiety” has over 1.5 million streams on Spotify. She has 2 extended play albums and several stand-alone singles. She writes and produces all her own music and plays multiple instruments. Her music is full of relatable lyrics and captivating melodies that draws the attention of listeners. - Review: "Sunboy" - Chris Noah
Chris Noah sings a thank you to his personal relationships in his latest single, “Sunboy”. During the pandemic, he entered a depressive season and made a few bad decisions. Noah turned these bad decisions into the inspiration for his song. “Sunboy” is thanking those who stood by his side despite the harmful choices he made. In the chorus, he sings “Yesterday got me thinking// The worst of me keeps repeating// But all is not lost if I’m your Sunboy.” Noah recognizes his self-destructive behaviors that impacted his relationships. However, he knows that everything will be alright because those who love him have not given up on him. The support from loved ones is what everyone needs when experiencing difficult times. Since the recent release of Stranger Things 4, 80s pop music is all anyone can talk about. This season of the hit Netflix show featured Kate Bush’s 1985 single, “Running Up That Hill”, causing the decades old song to reach #1 on the charts. Noah took inspiration from this era of pop music with his synth beats and catchy lyrics. Releasing an 80s inspired pop song during this phenomenon is genius, as it catches the attention of critics and fans alike. The idea for “Sunboy” came from a very dark place, but the lyrics and beat are lighthearted. This is a major theme in 80s pop, and Noah nails it. He feels free, knowing that his loved ones stuck by him in these difficult times. He knows he has made mistakes and have hurt those around him. But now the darkness has faded and the sun is shining again. Chris Noah is a Latvia based artist. He combines indie rock and catchy pop music to make captivating songs. Noah is highly popular in his home region, proving himself as a promising artist. His debut EP, “What About Tomorrow?” was nominated for best debut at the Latvian Music Awards. His second EP, “Distance”, was released in March 2020. The deluxe version was then released in November 2020, adding 3 more songs. During the pandemic, Noah signed a record deal with Sony Music Finland. He has continued to make new music and is set to release more in 2022. Written By Karlee Smith FOLLOW CHRIS:
