- Review: "VICIOUS" - Thomas Day
Thomas Day holds nothing back in his compelling new single, “VICIOUS”. The emotional track describes the intense feelings of heartache and betrayal he experienced after a devastating breakup. Day transports the listener into his mind after he discovered that the one he loved had been lying to him. The vulnerable lyrics throughout the song provide an insight that only a brilliant songwriter can deliver. The verses offer detailed descriptions of the torment his partner put him through, while the chorus represents Day rising up through the ashes and setting himself free. He sings, “I wish we could go back to the way it was// But I’ve got my own eyes// I’ve seen enough, all the damage.” He has come to realize that his partner has damaged their relationship beyond repair and now knows he needs to let them go. Day withholds the song title until the bridge, where he ties everything together. He sings, “Thinking about all the memories I’d visit// Hoping they’ll just slowly fade away// And maybe it’s my fault// I knew you were always vicious// I just didn’t know it was a game.” Preserving the title word for this one line makes these lyrics more powerful– more potent. Day reveals that he knew his partner was toxic, but had hoped that their relationship would prevail. But in the end, he was only left hurt and betrayed. “VICIOUS” is a heart wrenching track that beautifully showcases a complicated break-up through Day’s ingenious songwriting. “VICIOUS” is an exceptional track that takes the listener by surprise with the lively production and gloomy lyrics. The song begins with a steady keyboard before Day’s voice kicks off the first verse. When he starts singing, the bass guitar is added, providing a jazzy element to the song. Once the chorus hits, the production intensifies as Day passionately sings the honest lyrics. At this point, the drums are added and the bass and keyboard change pace to match the high energy. Once the second verse commences, the production from the first verse continues, with the drums remaining present. The chorus returns with its full energy, before Day’s angelic falsettos transition the song into the calm bridge. The production mellows, drawing focus on the vulnerable lyrics, before exploding into one final chorus. Day’s remarkable talent is highlighted in “VICIOUS” through the unforgettable lyrics and infectious melodies. Thomas Day is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Nashville. When he was only 9-years-old, he began participating in musical theater productions. From there, he knew that music was his passion and what his future holds for him. However, when he hit high school, he veered from this path. He turned to football, where he was his school’s star kicker and received several college scholarship offers. Despite this success, his heart remained with his music career. In 2021, he chose to commit to a career in music full-time. He began posting covers on TikTok, where he currently has 6.8 million followers. In the same year that he joined the platform, he signed with Arista Records and released his debut single, “Softly”. With only 9 singles under his belt, he has over 7 million social media followers across all platforms and over 30 million global streams. Day has made a name for himself in such a short time, proving that his 9-year-old self was right all along. Written By Karlee Skipper FOLLOW THOMAS:
- Review: "I Don't Wanna Fall" - Daisy The Great
photo credits: Eva Smittle "I Don't Wanna Fall" is a playful and classic rock themed song by the incredible duo, Daisy The Great. Though the lyrics are about going through a silly fight with the person you love and just wanting to make up, the music itself gives a positive feel to the song. The overall soundscape feels influenced by legends like Queen and Elton John - featuring a strong piano line and prominent electric guitar throughout - but with Daisy The Great's own modern indie-pop twist and their signature captivating harmonies. This song takes you back to a time when all the instruments you heard were real and live instead of electronically produced. The music video features Daisy The Great and their band in a sequence of clips being themselves, having fun, goofing around and playing live shows. Watching them perform in this video allows you to take in the raw and real type of sound that they have as well as their incredible energy and stage presence. I have no doubt in my mind 'I Don't Wanna Fall' sounds amazing live, especially with the impressive guitar solo and again, those incredibly crafted and iconic harmonies. Daisy The Great radiates a type of realness that a lot of music is missing nowadays, which makes you want to put their music on repeat and maybe go see them live! Daisy The Great is an indie-pop duo project created by singer-songwriters Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker. The Brooklyn, New York based friends began writing music together in 2016, releasing their first ever EP together in 2018, 'I’ve Got a Few Friends and I Wish They Were Mine'. Their single off of the EP, "The Record Player Song" gained traction on TikTok in 2019, gaining over 5 million streams. Since then they've accrued almost 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and just recently released their second album 'All You Need Is Time' which features "I Don't Wanna Fall" and my personal favorite, "Glitter". - Review: "Get Better" - Ari Zizzo
"Get Better" is an earnest song from artist Ari Rizzo. Ari's intentions are to create music that makes an impact, and connects with listeners. "Get Better", is a prime example of how Ari is trying to accomplish this, and accomplishing it well. "Get Better" is sure to tug on the heart strings because the song dives into the emotions following a breakup. More specifically the song tackles the feeling of loss, and abandonment. In the song listeners can also get the sense that there was an abruptness to the loss Ari faced. The song is also really successful at combining both the emotions of anger and acceptance. Ari is recognizing his past anger and confusion, while also accepting the current reality, and realizing he is better off. Ari Zizzo does a great job both mixing acoustic and raw sounds, with more electronic pop sounds. This shows Ari’s ability to use contemporary pop references, while also maintaining a unique sound. The tempo change from the verse to the chorus makes the transition an exciting and smooth one. The faster pace of the chorus really helps in delivering the emotional intensity of the song. This song is the perfect amount of pop and emotional, leading to a cathartic experience for listeners. Listener's are also given the space while listening to "Get Better", to feel all the feelings. "I don't really care if you ever get better", is the perfect lyric to scream post breakup. Ari Zizzo was born in New York, to his musical parents on the Upper East Side. He would attribute some of his inspiration to his parents among other artists. He began his journey with music at age four, and at thirteen he was itching to be an artist. Ari would then go to college to study music, and afterward move to L.A. to pursue his artistry. Ari ZIzzo does more than just make music, he is a true artist. His intentions show his authenticity as he is setting out to make the music closest to his heart that will connect with and help others. Written By Alison Holst FOLLOW ARI ZIZZO:

- Review: "If I Saw Your Ex" - Gigi Rich x HALLIE
Gigi Rich and HALLIE collaborated to create a high-energy track about all the things we wish we could do and say to our partner’s ex. It’s imminent that every failed relationship adds scars around our heart, so the person we are in a new relationship is not the person we were, and the person we fall in love with is not the same as they once were. When you love someone so deeply, imperfections and all, it’s almost impossible to imagine someone letting them go. We now have to climb over walls and hurdles due to the consequences of someone else’s actions, and we try to mend a heart we didn’t break. This can drive anyone a little mad, and sometimes when our head hits the pillow, we drift off into a world where we run into our person’s ex and tell them exactly what we’re thinking, and “If I Saw Your Ex” spells out exactly what we wish we could do. We look at our person and can’t fathom a world where someone doesn’t obsess over every inch of their soul, but everybody is somebody’s ex. We should just be glad they let them go, so we can have them and enjoy our life together to the fullest, but that’s much easier said than done. When you love someone, you want to protect them, and we protect by wronging the ones who wronged them in the first place. “If I Saw Your Ex” is the quintessential hype song. It’s the song you will sing with your girls when you’re getting ready. It’s the song you’ll ask the Uber to play, and turn up to 10, as you leave for a night out on the town. “If I Saw Your Ex” is the perfect combination of cheeky and relatable. The upbeat pop music melds seamlessly with sultry voices and deep thoughts. The lyrics are the words we think in our head that we might not say out loud, but now we finally have the chance to scream our inner-thoughts at the top of our lungs. Gigi Rich and HALLIE are not afraid to speak their minds, and this catchy track is the medicine we need to deal with the exes. Gigi Rich is a fiery pop artist making a name for herself in the industry. She is a singer/songwriter who really opens the audience into her real life. HALLIE is an infectious singer/songwriter and producer who is inspiring her generation. Their talents combined create a hit song that is sure to make a splash. - Review: "Summer '22" - Scott the Pisces (feat. BINX)
Scott the Pisces describes 'Summer '22' as the song of the Summer, and I have to agree with him. Everyone needs an upbeat jam to rock out to; with the windows down while you're driving down the road with your friends at sunset in July. You can't tell me you haven't done that at least once in your life. 'Summer '22' is the perfect song for that. It would also be perfect for a day at the beach or a night-time pool party. The more I listen to this song the more I can't wait to experience what this Summer is going to be like. Scott the Pisces is back again with BINX on a new collaboration. Immediately you are hit with sounds of ocean waves and seagull's in sky, accompanied by a rockin' guitar. The whole entire song is incredibly upbeat, there's no way you'll get through it without dancing. BINX has a sweet and smooth voice that captivates you; it makes you want to listen to what she has to say. Ice cream, beach waves, late night talks and a Summer love like Danny and Sandy is what we all long for when the Summer is about to begin. Scott the Pisces is a multi-talented musician born and raised London, United Kingdom. His dreams began at the age of 8 when he received his first guitar for Christmas. BINX is an artist based in Los Angeles who also collaborated with Scott on her 2021 single, 'Sea Salt'. Their collaborations have independently been created from the comfort of their bedrooms, yet have the most professional sound you could ever think of. You wont regret adding 'Summer '22' to your Summer playlist. Written By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW SCOTT:
- Interview: "Summer '22" - Scott the Pisces
'Summer '22' is going to be the ultimate anthem for this Summer! Can you tell us how this song came to be? Scott: Both BINX and I were in a place where we really wanted to create something that captured the essence of the summers we felt were stripped away from us all over the last few years. After previously working together for her single Sea Salt, I sent her over an instrumental I had produced and we began work on manifesting the anthem of the summer. BINX wrote the initial vocal idea, and after some back and forth, with me sending over vocal demos of new bits to add, such as vocal melodies, new verses; we found the perfect balance in creating that perfect pop sound. You and BINX are no strangers as this is your second collaboration together. What is it like working with BINX? Scott: It’s super fun to work with BINX, we’re both Pisceans which definitely helps us to have an outside the box approach to music. For me it’s super important to be able to trust an artist when you’re most vulnerable, especially when you can’t sing and have to send them an out of pitch vocal demo to explain an idea! BINX makes working on music super easy, she’s mega talented and I’m excited to work with her on future collaborations! How do you feel growing up in London has influenced you as an artist? Scott: Growing up in London exposed me to so many cultures, which absolutely influenced both my lifestyle preferences and musical background. I’m truly blessed to have had the experience of being surrounded by such a vast range of influences. There’s always a busker in all the main streets and train stations, you always hear different musical genres being played from cars passing by, or blaring out of someone's window when you walk past their house. I’m really grateful for how London has shaped me as a person and an artist. What draws you to the production side of music the most rather than, let's say, singing or lyrical writing? Scott: It’s funny you should say that because actually I do a lot of lyrical writing in the majority of my singles. 5 out of the 7 singles I’ve released so far I also wrote the lyrics to. My process usually begins at production, with me then writing and recording a vocal demo with a brilliant idea for the artist. On occasion you’ll hear my voice singing background vocals on records if you listen closely, I featured on my singles “On My Own”, “Perfect Summer” (which I rapped a whole verse), “Crazy About You” and briefly in the bridge of “Summer ‘22”. I’ve always been a musician, having learned to play guitar at the age of 8, and so the musical side of things always came first for me. I would spend hours simply listening to records, at a young age, likely analyzing all the individual melodies and elements. I attribute my love for music in general to why I find it comes natural for me. I guess the real reason you don’t currently find me singing lead vocals on my own songs comes down to the fact I’m not very good at the moment, but I would love to do a full project just me, myself and I one day! What would you say is the best advice you've ever received? Scott: My nan would always tell me that I was “Destined for greatness”, which isn’t necessarily advice but it has always been the motivation for me to push forward. A lot of wisdom that I’ve taken on as part of my mindset doesn’t usually come directly from the individual, but rather my interpretation of something I’ve overheard. One quote that comes to mind is “If you can visualize it in your mind, if you can believe in it, then you can achieve it” based upon the premise of manifestation. It’s important to have an open mind in this world for we truly know nothing of our existence. What music related goals do you have for the near future? Scott: I think my biggest goal at the moment is to have a number one single in the charts, that would be so awesome, and thanks to this latest single, it doesn’t seem like a pipe dream at all. In the near future to be able to quit working in hospitality and fully pursue music is the primary goal. I'd also like to spend a lot more time working on other artist’s projects; producing, writing, mixing. Lately I’ve been putting in a lot of work to build up my brand and image, strengthening all aspects of my ventures as a musician. I’m taking the right steps to manifest my success in this career, and it’s super exciting to see things falling into place. Interviewed By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW SCOTT:
- Interview: "Attention" - Emarosa
"Attention" is so incredibly catchy! Can you tell us the meaning behind the song? Emarosa: Thank you, I think the song's intention is pretty clear. Good or bad, most of us just want attention. Want to be the center of attention, especially as an artist. In love, in life, one reason or another I’ve always wanted attention. I think a lot of people can relate to that but don’t want to be vulnerable enough to say it. Originally you were a metalcore band. What was the transition to more of a pop sound like for you all? What pushed you in that direction? Emarosa: To be honest this band made a metalcore EP & an album, roughly 15 years ago. I wouldn’t define the self titled as metalcore personally and anything once I joined the band was far from it. I think versus was a rock album, 131 was a rock/alternative album, Peach Club was a alternative/pop album and now our next endeavor is leaning much more pop/???. I think for those of us involved in the making of these albums and the most recent effort, the path has been pretty clear. I don't want to be making the same music I was making 15 years ago. I’m not the same person I was 15 years ago. I think a lot of people are stuck in their nostalgia and try to hold onto that past but time moves on and people grow/change. This band has evolved multiple times, I think what pushed us in this direction was just our musical tastes changing and wanting to do something different. I’m not scared to try something new. How did the band name “Emarosa” come to be? Emarosa: I wish I had a better answer for you but to my knowledge, its just a name that came up in conversation a long time ago that stuck. What is the band's songwriting process like and how do you begin new projects? Emarosa: The last two albums have really been a studio effort. ER and I send each other ideas back and forth but the album really usually takes shape in the studio writing with our producer. It’s a very eclectic writing style, we don't have just one way of doing things. Sometimes a 5 year old song might make the album and sometimes we write something on the spot and it ends up being one of the favorites. What has been one of the band's favorite live performances? Emarosa: Our last tour was completely sold out, I have memories on that tour that I will cherish forever. We’ve played to enormous festival crowds, we’ve played in front of 20 people on a hardcore tour we had no business on. It really all has its charm when you look back. I think we all love playing in front of family and knowing that they’re proud to watch us live out our passion. What's in store for the band in the near future? Is "Attention" part of a larger project? Emarosa: Attention is absolutely part of a larger project, we’ll have more singles this year and eventually we’ll let it all out but for now we just want to put out that music that represents where we’re headed. There’s a lot in store for the rest of this year and next. Interviewed By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW EMAROSA:
- Interview: "The Avenue" - Zane Penny
I'm in love with your song 'The Avenue'. Can you tell us what this song means to you? Zane: Thank you! It can mean a lot of things which is why I think a lot of people are resonating with it. To me, it's about trying to talk through problems with the person who is the problem, usually, they're not receptive and you're left wishing you never had the conversation at all. What is the music scene like in Alaska? Zane: Incredible, there are so many talented artists in Alaska. I truly believe Alaska could explode like how Seattle did in the 90s, people just need to catch on. What made you decide to become a musician? Zane: I started shooting music videos and concert recap content for local artists I'm in a collective with. Music has always been a big part of my life and I've always wanted to pursue it but never had the courage, but seeing my friends up there on stage really motivated me to give it a shot. I think if I can inspire people like how I was inspired by my friends, it would be a good life lived. Who are some of your biggest influences and why? Zane: Oh man I'm just gonna name like a list haha, I'm inspired by so many people, I find a new person or thing to be inspired by daily. Right now it's Toro y Moi, Alex G, 070 Shake, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, Faye webster, Lomelda, Medium Build, Paramore - just to name a few lol I absolutely love them all. If you could perform at any venue anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why? Zane: It's a big dream of mine to have a big ole show at the Performing arts center in Anchorage because I've been going to shows there since I was tiny. But besides that probably Red Rocks for obvious reasons haha. What's coming next for you in your music career? Zane: More music soon! Hopefully, I'll just magically explode in popularity overnight but until then I'll be at home making beats. Interviewed By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW ZANE:
- Interview: "Walkaway" - LIZZIE
Your new single "Walkaway" is a beautiful yet melancholic song about love and relationships. What's the story behind it? LIZZIE: The story I wanted to get across to people is if someone in the relationship isn't trying or you feel the person with you doesn't feel the same way they did before, that they aren't worth the tears or pain and to know it's ok to walk away if it doesn't feel right. Even if it hurts you to leave them sometimes it's better that way as you may find someone who will love you as much as you love him/her. How did you get started writing songs and performing? LIZZIE: I began to properly write songs after I recorded a cover song with a young local producer, after writing an EP with him I was then introduced to Darren Martyn of DMunsigned through my vocal coach Amelia Mccloskey, and through Amelia I've had lots of opportunities to perform live in front of people. What's your songwriting process like? LIZZIE: My process of writing is that I usually come up with a melody or a tune and either write a chorus or a verse. How do you balance college life with your music career? LIZZIE: I usually try to finish any college work I have before looking at my music so that once it's finished I can go back to creating things and having fun. I will admit that sometimes it is hard to balance everything as some days I may not spend time with my friends and make valuable memories. I think recently I've managed to speak up about taking breaks or spacing things out or opening my diary a bit so I can have fun with my friends and make those memories, as to me my friends are my strength and my inspiration for doing music. What has been one of your favorite live performances? LIZZIE: My favorite performance has to be doing a performance at teddy rocks, as it was my first time going there as well as my first time performing there. What kind of plans do you have for your music career in the near future? Are you working on other projects? LIZZIE: For the future I'm planning to try and perform at more venues and more festivals and get more exposure. and I'm currently working on my third EP which will hopefully show the world a different side to me. - Review: "Sugar Rush" - SABRINA
There's nothing quite like love. Love can hold a lot of meanings and is a very complex feeling. The cliché perspective of love is having feelings for someone romantically - but it can be so much more than that. It can be the way you feel when you're in your happy place, the feeling when you're eating your favorite food, or how you feel when you're doing your favorite activity. "Sugar Rush" by SABRINA emphasizes the sweetness of how it feels to just love and be happy, no matter what the circumstance that makes you feel that way is. Click Here to Listen to Sugar Rush! "Sugar Rush" sounds just as sweet as it's title. SABRINA's vocals are soft and comforting, her kind vibrato reminds me of a hummingbird. This is a song that you can listen to when you're stressed, as it has an incredibly relaxing nature. The beat gives off a soft RnB vibe, with a soulful pop electric guitar and dark bass notes that give it energy and livelihood. The melody is hauntingly beautiful, but has just enough brightness to make you feel a sense of euphoria. SABRINA is an independent Alt. Pop singer/songwriter from Brighton, UK. She's gotten attention from BBC Radio on quite a few occasions including several "Track of The Day" Features on "Introducing the South". - Review: "Surrender" - Zach Churchill
Especially nowadays, everyone knows what it feels like to struggle with something, whether it's past trauma, addiction, burnout from over working or current situations. We get stuck in this constant feeling of hopelessness and pain that we try to cover up with a smile. It's hard waking up everyday and nothing ever changes, in our minds AND in our lives. "Surrender" by Zach Churchill speaks for all of us who deal with these dark feelings. The not wanting to get out bed, wishing you weren't feeling so crappy, not being motivated - we wonder what even is the point in anything? We get stuck in these thoughts, almost like a meditative state where we lay in bed and just overthink. But it's okay to feel sad, and it's definitely okay to take time for yourself. All we can do is hope that one day these feelings will reside. Zach gives a pop/rock feel in this particular song. The song consists of dark chords played by bass and guitar in unison. It really gives off the emotion of what the song is about. Zach's vocals are filled to the brim with emotion and presence. The way he can show us how he feels with only the sound and use of his voice is pure talent. The lyrics are so descriptive, and they repeat throughout the song giving the sense of being stuck in this constant repetitive state. BUT - as the song progresses, so does the music itself. The instrumentation builds, and almost gives off this sense of hope and strength, like you're trying to break out of these difficult thoughts. It may seem impossible to get out of it now, but if you give it time, you can work your way out eventually. Zach Churchill is a singer/songwriter currently based in LA. Zach brilliantly writes about his journey and struggles in life, in which he shares with the world. His music is something a lot of people can relate to, and he makes us feel like we're not alone. 'Surrender' is his lead single for his upcoming album, 'Greater Than' coming this fall on October 28th. His second single for this album, 'Hover' featuring Jessica Vines, is also out right now so go take a listen! You'll love it just as much as this one.
