- Interview: "Like It's The Last Time" - Andriana Chobot
Q: ‘Like It’s The Last Time’ has such an amazing vibe to it! What inspired you to write it? Andriana: During the last couple years of quarantine, I started to really sense moments differently. Especially whenever I got the chance to do anything that was outside my living space. It immediately became surreal, to go outside, to walk down the street, to pass a person on the sidewalk, to even go inside another building. My anxiety was pulsing, and my reality was warped and a bit dizzying. This song is about trying to come back to "reality" and feel as you once were, reaching normalcy, appreciating the present and the people around you. It's also about a few personal relationships that ended in the pandemic, too. Q: What made you want to pursue making your own music? Andriana: I started playing classical piano at a young age, then it morphed into my own compositions. Finally in high school I started my teenage rebellion fresh, by writing my own songs and playing with other musicians. Then I decided to go into the arts in college, and it continued since then. Q: You have such a unique sound! Who are your biggest music influences? Andriana: Oh! Well, thanks! I've been told that, but I that uniqueness also brings its' own set of challenges. My influences range on Chopin, to Bill Evans, to Amanda Palmer to Lorde...Regina Spektor, Ben Folds, Bat for Lashes, Fiona Apple, Arcade Fire, Rufus Wainwright, and Kate Bush. Q: What was your favorite part about filming the music video for ‘Like It’s The Last Time’? Andriana: Well, other than the food I was "required" to eat...(I had never had fried dough until then!)... I had this vision of my laying on the floor of a merry-go-round, while the grass spun around, over and over. I wanted to illustrate that dizzying ride of life that we all take, how our own selves are constant, as life's peripherals may spin around on their own. It was such a great effect on film! Let me tell you that I certainly had a few people staring and got some baffled looks. I'm just glad the guy in charge of the ride let me almost have free reign! I met a bunch of people who were so curious about what I was doing...such a different way to start a conversation. Q: If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would you pick and why? Andriana: Well, other than perhaps, the dream of Carnegie Hall in New York City.... perhaps on a ride of the London Eye, in the UK! Or either at the Lviv Theatre or Sydney Opera House. Some kind of historical monument. These places are just seeping with old culture. If I got an opportunity like that I'd just be so struck to the core that I'd perform on a completely other plane of existence. But I mean, ha, Lollapalooza and SXSW's energy would be lit too. Q: What’s coming next for you? We can’t wait to hear more! Andriana: My first, full length album! This coming year, an eclectic list of songs will be on physical mediums: CD & Vinyl. And most of them will be up on streaming sites too. Follow me on social media to see/hear more! Written By Sarah Curry FOLLOW ANDRIANA:
- "Call Me" - Shoshan Dunamis
‘Call Me’ by Shoshan Dunamis is a sweet love song about being a dependable partner. There’s something so magical about being completely devoted to those you love. You’d do anything for them. “Whatever you need, whatever you want; you can call me love, yeah you can call me up.” Showing you're available and raring to go inspires people. The positivity within this song is like the thrill of riding a rollercoaster. It represents the euphoria of romance! Time stops as lighthearted piano and bass lines underscore the upbeat melody. As she repeats her eloquent message, she reinforces the idea of a passionate love that’s easily reciprocated. To make things even more compelling, Dunamis’s soulful voice has the richness of dark chocolate. Pair that with the sweetness of the chorus and you’ll be enraptured by the song from start to finish. - "Girls Like You" - The Attire
Who can recall the vibe and attitude of pretty much any epic Bruno Mars track like Uptown Funk? Anyone? “Girls Like You” by The Attire has that vibe to it, and honestly, I am loving it. When the track played, I stopped, ran over and played it through my studio quality headphones and I’d advise you do the same (to fully appreciate the art in this track). Now let me get into the story of “Girls Like You” – it revolves around a girl who is messing around with her boyfriend like forgetting his birthday and refusing to apologize…and of course wanting him back every time he decides to leave. Eventually he reaches his limit (and then I guess he wrote a banger pop track about it?). The romantic lyricism is very honest and relatable. What I appreciate most is the funky, groovy attitude in the song – you can literally be bawling your eyes out and still want dance to this track. The song features a strong 80’s sound to it. “Girls like you” leads you in with epic drums and bass guitar, followed by smooth vocals most girls will swoon over. Vocally the technique used in this track is on point and aligns with the brand of the track. The pre-chorus definitely stood out and served as a great hook. This track comes as no surprise because this pop duo, Greg Shilling and Stephen Santa Teresa, has worked with esteemed names such as Julien Bunetta (One Direction, Jason Derulo) and The Aftrhrs (Maroon 5, Louis Tomlinson). Also, how cool and relevant is the lyric video for this track? Greg and Stephen have been friends since adolescence and their bond features in the music. Their album, “Songs About Girls Like You”, is a compilation of tracks threading through the ups and downs of a relationship. “From falling in love to falling apart - it demonstrates the key moments of a relationship from beginning to end” says the LA based duo. The highly anticipated album dropped on the 24th of February 2022 and is available on all major media platforms. Do yourself the favor and have a listen to The Attire’s full album – you will thank me later... In conclusion, I leave you with a quote Greg stated beautifully: “Pain ends. We have to latch onto hope. Stephen and I do it with music.” Written By Nicholas Joubert FOLLOW THE ATTIRE:

From the get go this upbeat track features her vocals and as the song builds towards the chorus, you're intrigued by her energy. If you listen critically, you will soon realize that vocally, she has great technique and skill to produce the perfect sound for her brand. She writes from the perspective of a strong female figure, concealing the confident punch that is packed within the track. You go girl, own your power! This teen pop singer is no stranger to the music industry. Since 5 years old, music and performing has been a part of her life. - Interview: "Why Can't We Be Just Friends" - Aut Ratchaphom
Q: “Why Can’t We Be Just Friends” is giving the song of the summer vibes! What inspired you to make this track? Aut: First of all, I didn't plan and knew it would end up sounding like a Summer song. All I thought about was I want to make an uplifting and bright sound kind of song for the album. It's pretty crazy and makes me happy that everyone all said this song is the perfect song for the summer. My producer (Choven Prau) knew right away what kind of sound I wanted for WCWBJF based on the demo and the reference production after he heard them. Initially, I wrote and came up with the idea for this song in my bedroom back on 22nd August 2019. Basically, the idea and meaning behind this song is about wanting to keep a good relationship with the past lover or the people that you used to be so close to. And yeah so far, It ended up being everyone's most favourite song from my whole discography. Q: What made you want to start making your own music? Aut: I started making my own music back in 2016, because that year my favourite artists didn't release any new songs. Plus, it was the year where trap rap music was taking over the industry. So, instead of waiting for the type of music that I listen to to be released, what I did was I picked up guitar and piano and the journey started from there. Also, Taylor Swift is definitely the person who inspired me to write music, picking up guitar and piano. Q: I love your style! Which was your favorite look in the “Why Can’t We Be Just Friends” music video? Aut: Thank you so much! This is definitely the hardest decision to make, but I would probably go with the first outfit at the opening scene which is a Brown Coat outfit! Q: Which vinyl in your collection are you most proud of having? Aut: OMG, the one that I'm most proud of is Taylor Swift's 1989 Vinyl. I've been searching for it for AGES and I was lucky enough to get it exactly on my birthday last year! Q: It’s on my bucket list to go to Australia! Is there anywhere you recommend checking out when I’m there? Aut: That would be super cool! You will definitely love it here especially if you love beaches and sun. I would recommend you to come in summer, which is December all the way to March and the places that you must visit are Fremantle and Rottnest Island. Chef kiss. Q: What can we expect from the rest of your second album? We’re so excited to give it a listen! Aut: First of all, this is the proudest project that I ever created so far. So many surprises in it. There's 16 tracks in the album including WCWBJF. The 16 tracks have their own personality. The base of this album is Pop, but not pure Pop because it has a heavy infusion of Jazz, Funk, Rock and Trap. You would expect something darker for later releases after my next single 'So In. Love With You'. My favourite track of this album is Taxicab. It will serve as the third single from the album after 'So In. Love With You'. It's definitely the track I'm really excited to release the most and everyone should keep their eyes on. Well, the best word to properly explains and describes this Album is "a silver sunflower that's blooming in the summer night" Written By Sarah Curry FOLLOW AUT:
- "Tell Me" - PELA
Imagine you are floating in the deep ocean on a warm summer day, waves pushing you up and down. Supposedly relaxed, you're at the mercy of the sea, aware of the impending danger, but like every good lifeguard has ever preached, do NOT panic. Is this not the same with anxiety as well? That is what "Tell Me" is all about. The band describes the story as: " It is about learning to interrupt the spirals we find ourselves in and how to navigate unhelpful thoughts” . It is absolutely brilliant and such a relatable topic. This dream electro pop track is lyrically about being in the throws of anxiety, but sonically it has an is uplifting feel to it. The deep electro beat which "Tell Me' starts off with, is producer & instrumentalist, Olly Shelton's way of drawing the outline. The track is further followed by vocals from Hannah Coombes as she colors this track with her vocals. This track is truly reflective in nature, shining the light on how to navigate your thoughts through the whirlwind of emotional anxiety. What puts the icing on the cake of course is the fact that the music video was shot in the beautiful St Mary's church in Kemptown, Brighton - it sets the stage for the mood of the song beautifully and showcases PELA at their very finest. "Tell Me" marks PELA's much awaited return to the music scene after taking a break from releasing music in 2021. Their run of superb self released singles throughout 2020 gathered support from many press, radio and tastemaker publications including BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Notion, COLORS, 1883 Magazine, John Kennedy (Radio X) to name but a few. "Tell Me" is the first glance into their soon-to-be-announced EP project, so stay tuned with PELA on their social media platforms below. Written By Nicholas Joubert FOLLOW PELA:
- "Ciao" - Charles Fauna
Are you an overthinker? Me too. We can get so consumed in our own thoughts that it’s hard to assert ourselves. Now we can release those thoughts with ‘Ciao’ by Charles Fauna! He wrote this empowering song that says "goodbye" to stress and "hello" to optimism. He also encourages us to live a little. It’s easy to get bogged down when we reminisce about the past or worry about the future. But why not send some love to yourself and how amazing you’re doing today ? Take a break and jam out to this confidence booster! When you take decisive action to pull yourself out of darker places, you’re unstoppable! That’s exactly how Fauna wants you to feel. The confidence in Fauna’s gorgeous falsetto inspires you to excellence! He grabs your attention with angelic harmonies and an impressive vocal range. But even when the lyrics stop, the groove keeps going! The saxophone comes in to add a decorative, soulful flair to the sensational beat. The string-filled fadeout frees you from all your worries and doubts. With this irresistible track, you’ll feel rejuvenated in no time! Brooklyn-based artist Charles Fauna grew up in LA, where he was immersed in the culture of Hollywood. In 2017, Fauna started going by his real name and developed a new songwriting style driven by honesty. Now, he actively draws in listeners with the magnetic pull of contrasting ideas. He’s amassed more than a million streams and has received high praise for his unique alt-pop soundscapes. ‘Ciao’ is one of the singles off his new EP of the same name. Go check it out! - "smalltowns" - LOVELOVELOVE
The rise of social media has certainly changed how we interact with others. Taking inspiration from that idea, ‘smalltowns’ by LOVELOVELOVE is a dreamy collection of thoughts about love and relationships in the modern era. “That’s how you throw it all away; everybody’s talking cuz they know now.” The song contains a metaphor relating the prevalence of social media to a small town. Word gets around fast! The resulting pressure can place strain on our relationships. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the rush of it all! Mix all of those ideas together and you’ve got a serene anthem that’s surprisingly addictive! When we post on our socials, we tend to present our best and withhold anything we don’t want just anyone to know. “Is it just me? I hate how this feels, to have to be fake but the fake feels so real.” Daydreams and stark reality seem to merge when love gets involved, and this line is a prime example of that. Idyllic guitar strums set up an easy-going vibe that’s super peaceful. The vocals are full of flavorful textures that allow you to really feel the honesty in each phrase. You can tell that there’s so much heart and soul poured into this! This is a great chill song to elevate your mood! The Brisbane indie-pop duo of Denis Janse and Jared Hundermark have just released their debut single ‘smalltowns’. Their work is greatly influenced by LANY and The Chainsmokers. Their authentic sound originates from their goal to focus exclusively on the music rather than the aesthetics. After months of planning, they finally decided to start sharing their wonderful music with the world. They’ve got another single coming in April and a debut EP coming in June! Be sure to stay tuned! - Interview: "Stuck" - Yulia Ehwaz
Q: I am sure many people resonate with your new single, 'Stuck', and would feel less alone by listening to it! Can you share what inspired you to write such an emotional song? Yulia: It started when ArtVision, producer of the song, sent me a draft of his project. I listened to it and was in love at first sight. Some days later the melody came to my head and I decided that’s exactly what we need for this song. I wanted to make it chill and deep at the same moment so I rejected all thoughts about strong progression/change of the melody. The lyrics of the song tell about one of dark periods of my life and especially of my relationships. In any relationships there are difficulties, misunderstandings, struggles. The most important question is if you want to fight for it and fix it. But even if you want, it doesn’t mean that your partner do. It’s like one gate play. Q: When did you start writing your own music? Yulia: My music journey started when I was a 6 years old child, I played violin and sang in a school choir for about 9 years. When I studied in the university I decided that music is everything for me so I started to write music. I can’t say this experience was successful because I’m far from all these technical things when you write music in any soft. But anyway I released some instrumentals on SoundCloud and some people even liked it. When I realised I’m not good at producing music I started to find connections in the world of music with great and talented people. And nowadays we still work on music together. Q: What was it like working with ArtVision? Yulia: Timur (ArtVision) is an extremely talented and nice person. He produced some EDM tracks for my previous project «Ehwaz». We always start with instrumentals and when I hear it I always have ideas for vocals. In a process we always make some remarks until we both like the result. I really grateful that one day he sent me a message on Instagram and we decided to work together! Q: Your tattoos are stunning!! What’s your favorite one you’ve gotten so far? Yulia: Thank you! I love all of them but I think my favourites are chimera on my right shoulder and aardwolf on my right forearm. These two were made my my fav tattoo artist Polina shadow.moon.ink and we’re going to make the whole sleeve soon! Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world to perform, where would you pick and why? Yulia: I want to perform everywhere haha. But still as a beginner I would like to start with Europe and the US. There are no such possibilities in my country because music industry is completely dead here but I believe I’ll be able to break through it. Q: Do you have any advice for someone who may be going through a similar situation like what inspired ‘Stuck’? Yulia: You matter! Don’t let somebody ruin your life. If you see that person is not interested in you, don’t waste your time and leave, and that’s not only about romantic relationships, that’s about any kind of communication with people. Concentrate on your mental health, your life, family and friends. And remember you’re not alone, there are always people who support you. Written By Sarah Curry FOLLOW YULIA:
- Interview: "Neptune" - Mathieu Saïkaly
Q: ‘Neptune’ is such an amazing track! Can you share what inspired you to write this song? Mathieu: Thanks! It was the feeling you get before coming apart that inspired me. The moment where you realize that you lose the other, where that person goes further and further from you and you can’t find a way back to them. It’s too late, there’s going to be a storm. A separation is going to happen. This is the last step, the last planet before going out of the solar system. I’m talking about “the other”, but of course it’s also someone that you could find in front of a mirror. Q: What first got you into music? Mathieu: I can’t really say. I’m guessing the wonderful vibrations you feel when you listen to music got to my baby ears and made me want to try to create sounds :). Q: How would you describe your unique sound? Mathieu: I try to search my heart in an honest way, which is not always easy but necessary, and always explore new ways of capturing my feelings the best way possible. I don’t limit myself in terms of sound. If I’m drumming on a table and I like the sound, I’ll use that table. I don’t really care about a clean, neat studio sound if it’s not the best way of translating my emotions. So I guess my sound is true to myself, with all my flaws and assets, and that makes it unique :). Q: What was the experience like filming a video for ‘Neptune’? Mathieu: Actually we kind of improvised the video! I was with Eric De Chazournes, a filmmaker and long time friend of mine, and there was mist that day, and we thought it could represent well the feeling of the song, so we just took the camera, the guitar and let ourselves go. Q: If you could be the opening act for any artist in the world, who would you pick and why? Mathieu: There’s so many, it’s hard to pick one! Q: What advice would you give to an artist that is just starting out? Mathieu: Don’t be afraid to try things. Sometimes it seems like a mountain to climb, but doing it step by step you’ll realize it’s not that overwhelming to put yourself out there. Trying will always bring you something positive. If it works, you’ll grow. If it doesn’t, you’ll learn. And you’ll try again :). Be kind to your mistakes, but always try to outdo yourself. Written By Sarah Curry FOLLOW MATHIEU:
- "My Best Friend Is My Therapist" - Erica Manzoli
Feeling disconnected from those closest to you? From the world around you? Lockdown has likely magnified those sentiments. Erica Manzoli’s song ‘My Best Friend Is My Therapist’ discusses the pressures of social media and the impact that isolation had on her self-image. “Taking pics to deal with the emptiness; swiping left on my love.” The numbing effect of screens isn’t talked about enough. Manzoli strikes a match over the void in her heart to give you an emotive song that calls attention to this very feeling. When social media becomes a coping mechanism, it can wear you down. “Broken and bruised...I’m so tired; let me feel anything.” Manzoli’s raspy vocals reflect the frustration she feels as she’s caught in a screen loop. You can imagine yourself lying in bed and asking yourself, “What am I doing with my life?” Even if you know the answer, you may lack the motivation to change your trajectory. Manzoli nails this feeling of helplessness. A subdued accompaniment cements the melancholy mood of the song. You can really connect with Manzoli’s unforgettable story! Erica Manzoli is an emerging singer/songwriter and musician from southeast London. The 21-year-old wrote her debut single ‘My Best Friend Is My Therapist’ from her bedroom. Immersed in her thoughts, she’s penned musical diaries on topics like self-reflection, depersonalization and derealization. - "Cyanide" - Ro Nova
Quick science lesson: Cyanide, the chemical (for those that do not know) is extremely poisonous and inhibits your body's cells from using oxygen. It is also used in the extraction of silver and gold. And I confess, Ro Nova extracted the gold from this electronic pop track. She describes "Cyanide" as her desire to find danger and be kept on the edge. The further explains it is about finding solace is seeking thrills. The deep base beats and vocals reminds me of a track from Billie Eilish. Click here to listen to "Cyanide" The intro of the song starts of with a trumpet sound and then shoots out the blocks with her smooth and laid back vocals. Add the fast beat progression on this pop track and you have a chill vibe going. I do however want to point out that throughout, this song features a really sick beat - exactly what you would expect from the "up-and-coming producer". You don't necessarily have to understand or follow the lyrics, when you have a beat that presents as cool as "Cyanide". The London based Ro has gathered support from tastemakers such as Harriet Rose and James Threlfall (BBC) and outlets such as Hoxton Radio and Visual Atelier 8. She has worked with UK songwriters Fred Again and Kamille, and wrote with the likes of Raye and MNEK. Although 2021 has been a big year for Ro, 2022 is starting off with a lot of excitement following the release of her track, Silver, on New Years Eve. She is also setting out on two European tours with two high profile acts. Written By Nicholas Joubert FOLLOW Ro Nova:
