  • Interview: "Rome" by Arin

Q: We are in love with your song 'Rome'! Can you tell us the story behind it? Arin: Awesome yeah I’d love to. So ‘Rome’ was actually inspired by two close friends of mine who always had a bit of history between them. They both knew there was a bit of a spark but thought it best to maintain their friendship over everything else. I decided to write about the ‘what if’ and how it would be to venture into something previously forbidden. Q: Can you tell us what inspired you to start making music? Arin: Ever since I started playing guitar I’ve been entranced with trying to write songs as a form of expression for myself. I love how songwriting works as an outlet for emotions as well as a fun creative process where you can delve into a story. Q: What would you say your favorite line in 'Rome' is? Arin: For me it’s gotta be the lyrics in the bridge when it goes “falling deeper in, gotta sink to swim so let’s learn to drown together” Q: If you could collaborate with any artist of your choice, who would you choose and why? Arin: I’d love to work with Jeremy Zucker to see how he goes about creating music because I really appreciate his attention to detail especially within his production Q: What are your interests outside of music? Arin: I really enjoy bouldering and climbing, especially in the summer when it’s hot out. And also cooking, nothing beats a lovey homemade meal after a long day. Q: You have an EP coming out January 14th! Can you tell us what you have in store for us? Arin: Totally! So I’m very excited for this as this EP will be my first body of work out and for me it is a journey through my own exploration of emotions I’ve encountered in relationships. There’s 6 tracks in total so I’m excited to see how everyone reacts to the project and to see their favourites! Written By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW ARIN:

  • Interview: "Someone New" by Nicholas Joubert

Q: Can you tell us what 'Someone New' is about? Nicholas: I wrote Someone New after going through a breakup and navigating through all the emotions that goes along with it. It was very on and off at the time and this seesaw effect created a lot of mixed emotions. Managing the emotions almost seemed impossible at the stage, so I wrote down what I was going through - it was like my own personal therapy. I was in a very contemplating state of writing, and I did loads of self-reflection. Q: What was your favorite experience from filming the music video for 'Someone New'? Nicholas: The whole experience was a great learning curve for me and working with a great team who have such awesome energy really made this experience for me very memorable. I really enjoyed filming on set and feeling the excitement build to the actual release of the music video. I enjoyed learning choreography but I also realized I have two left feet, LOL. I need to work a lot harder to develop the skill. Q: What first got you into music? Nicholas: I've always had a passion for singing. When I was younger, I always sang myself to sleep, but that was mostly because I enjoyed singing. In primary school our choir teacher asked me to audition for our school choir. It was only towards the end of primary school that I considered pursing a career as a singer. By the time I was in high school, I was taking singing lessons to improve my voice. In 2020 I was scouted and presented with a great opportunity to live my dream. I was introduced to the right team to make my dream a reality. Q: What would you say is your favorite line in 'Someone New'? Nicholas: "You lied to me, so casually, do you lie to him too?" This is my favorite line because it is the ultimate reason that I've been kept for a fool. It's the eye opening point in the song. Q: Who are some of your biggest influences? Nicholas: Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, HRVY, and Michael Jackson. Q: What do you have in store for the future? Nicholas: I am planning to release more music in 2022 and to build on the success of my debut single. I really want to engage a lot more with my fans on social media. I'll be doing covers as well - I'm singing the songs on my own anyway so I thought maybe it's a good idea to show the world the music I like singing and what it sounds like when I sing it. It is a fun way to engage with fans and meeting new people. My website is also launching in 2022. Written By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW NICHOLAS:

  • Interview: "Always Almost" by Nicolette Capua

Q: I really admire your raw lyricism in 'Always Almost'. Can you tell us what the story behind the song is? Nicolette: 'Always Almost' is about feeling like you can never catch a break with things going wrong in your life. It's always one thing after the other. I feel like this is always happening in my life, just a nonstop cycle. Nothing can just stay consistently okay. I think this is something a lot of people can relate to where they are always almost there but never quite make it. You feel like you have to constantly fix who you are because something is always going wrong. Q: What would you say is your personal favorite part of 'Always Almost'? Nicolette: My favorite part of 'Always Almost' is the chorus because I love how I start singing the lyrics in a sarcastic way, such as when I say "Guess I gotta be dishonest, maybe make my body flawless, for everybody to believe, it's always almost stopping me." These lyrics are saying well if you can't accept me for who I am I guess I have to be untrue to who I am and change myself because just being me isn't enough apparently. Q: What is your songwriting process like? Nicolette: Before I start writing any song I always like to write down specific concepts that I have experiences in so I am able to be authentic and original in my lyrics. I then either create a melody off the top of my head or pull up a type beat of YouTube and create melodies based off that beat. I write to the beat and then sit down with my producer to make a new beat to the lyrics and melodies I created. And then it's time to record ;) Q: How do you think growing up in New York has influenced you and your music? Nicolette: I think growing up in New York has influenced me and my music a lot because of the wide diversity of sounds New York provides . Traveling from Staten Island to NYC everyday and experiencing different genres of music at my old high school (Professional Performing Arts Highschool) has really inspired me to add different elements in my own music and expand on my vocals in my recordings. New York is the best place to be as an artist because there's so many opportunities right in front of you to go out and show the world what you have to offer. Just bringing in New York gives you the extra push to chase your dreams because of all the hustle and hard working people there are here. Q: When did you know you wanted to become an artist? Nicolette: I knew when I was 9 years old that singing was my passion in life and that I needed to start taking it seriously because I truly enjoyed it and I wanted to just sing all the time for everyone. It's always just been music for me. I started taking professional vocal lessons at age 10 and never stopped from there on. I started singing classical music with my vocal coach because "classical vocal training is the best training for singing any genre of music." I then went on to singing in a church choir for a few years then went on to singing pop music and recording my original songs at Etstudioprodictions. I auditioned for PPAS where I studied vocal as well and now I am at NJCU majoring in Music Business. Being an independent female artist has always been what I aspired to be and I'm so grateful that I'm able to write, record, and perform my music in New York City. Q: If you were a song, what song would you be and why? Nicolette: If I was a song I'd be 'Fix You' by Coldplay. I have always loved this song because I feel like it represents my life. The song deals with wanting to always help someone, learning from your mistakes and being in love but not knowing how to express it. I feel like I'm always trying to help others instead of focusing on my problems and dealing with it myself. A line in the song says "stuck in reverse" like you're doing the best you can but at the end of the day you're not successful. Although there's always someone there wanting to help you even if you don't see it. Written By Kaitlyn Nicole FOLLOW NICOLETTE:
